HR Apple
Based on the information given but in your own words, explain what approaches to recruiting might be best suited for Apple's talent acquisition.
Before any problem can be solved, it is important to gather all the resources available in order to best apply any given plan or idea. Understanding what resources are available to the human resources department at Apple Inc. will no doubt serve as a foundation of success if this step is accomplished thoroughly. The resource-based view of human resource management appears to be the best approach in this particular instance. Leadership has made it clear to the human resources department in this case that maintaining competitive advantage will be accomplished by in-sourcing more of the microchip technology and other technological processes within building Apple products. It is up to the human resource managers to now determine what resources can best be applied to this overall strategy.
Recruiting is essential to maintain this new outlook of competitive advantage. It is important for Apple's human resources department to understand that secrecy and deception may be necessary in order to preserve this seemingly advantageous position. Recruiting should be done selectively, but with a purpose of leading talent away from rival competitors and sourcing companies in order to make Apple stronger. Ensuring ethical and moral guidelines are in place will be imperative in order for this method to have any success. Pure deception and unfair treatment towards employers or future employees will not stand the test of time as qualified personnel will be easily led away from this type of approach. Staying honest yet deceptively competitive remains the best approach for recruiting Apple's future talent.
2. Describe the recruiter traits and behaviors that would lead to the most successful recruiting campaign for Apple.
During challenging times in any environment, it is important for those who desire success to persevere through challenging times. Discipline and perseverance are probably the most important traits any recruiter could wish to hold in order to be successful within their particular environment. Success is more of a result of hard work continually applied over long periods of time as opposed to sudden bursts of revelation and miracle. This attitude of servitude and discipline will no doubt help create an atmosphere of potential and determination that will serve the company best. Ingenuity and ability to keep an open mind will assist in the recruiter's problems as well. Having a flexible outlook towards solving problems keeps avenues of approach open that otherwise would be closed. Most importantly it is required of the recruiter to stay aligned with the overall mission of the company. Incorporating these principles into the human resource department will keep the company to gather and moving forward in the same direction.
3. Suggest three (3) ways that Apple can effectively plan for HR resources. Rank in order of cost to implement.
Brenner (2011) described Apple Inc. As "a company that inspires passion among customers and their business growth has been astonishing." She further implied that human resources leaders ability to be successful must be aligned with the leadership's goals and objectives. Keeping this idea of alignment in mind, there are three approaches Apple can take to effectively plan for their human resource's resources. It is important to create a plan of action to understand what the demand and supply issues are. This can be done both quantitatively and qualitatively. A simple and relatively low-cost approach to this plan is to use simple brainstorming techniques which can combine this energetic forces of the intelligence and knowledge of all those within the human resource department and other places within the company. Creating a mission of recruitment throughout the entire company, may cost them money in loss of production but may benefit them greatly in finding new ways to recruit top talent.
A second method of planning for human resources is to form quantitative analysis that may be helpful in determining what particular plan may be suitable. Quantitative analysis requires statistical analysis and consulting statisticians and others familiar with this type of planning. Importing the right variables is often a challenge, but when this is done correctly, and interpretation is done under the guise of the correct assumptions, quantitative analysis can be very helpful in any situation.
A third method of planning is incorporating both qualitative and quantitative analysis during the planning stages. Using both mathematical models and quantitative analysis accompanying this with qualitative analysis performed through reasoning and rationalizing leadership accompanied with other members of human resource management teams will combine to form a solid approach of planning. The downside of this approach is the initial resources that it will take combine efforts. It'll be the most costly, but undoubtedly will have the most payoff if it is done correctly.
4. Discuss the benefits that forecasting provides for Apple.
Forecasting, when done correctly may produce benefits that exceed expectations. Forecasting is an inexact science however that often leads business strategists confused and unaware of larger problems. It is therefore important to understand that the benefits of forecasting can only be realized when they are completely aligned with the leadership goals of the larger company. Forecasting profits, supply trends, and environmental trends must always include some sort of guess work unfortunately. Probability and probability models are helpful in eliminating some of this doubt, but in no way can guarantee an absolute benefit from forecasting. Interpretation of the forecast is where its value most likely lies. Subtle interpretation applied to the intricacies of the company is when the benefits of forecasting are applied in their truest essence.
