Globalization has become such an important world in defining the way in which economies and countries develop that an actual definition of the term itself is no longer sought. It represents nowadays a terminology that entangles the entire array of economic, political, social, and cultural elements of life at the global level.

However, the critics of the globalization process tend to view these developments as worsening the condition of the human being through the high level of dependency on economic revenues, on the strong inter-connectivity between countries, societies, and individuals that eventually leads to diluting the actual nature of the individual as a particular human being, with rights and obligations, with a life following the social contract norms of the 18th century.

Perhaps one of the most spread discussion on the actual effects of globalization revolves around the negative impact this phenomenon has on the poor people who, as a result of the indirect effects of the activities that define globalization, become even poorer and the gap between the rich and the poor is constantly expanding.

The issue of modern slavery and the discussions it entangles leads to the point of considering that slavery, as Kevin Bales pointed out in "Disposable people" is by no means an issue of the past and rather it represents the realities of the present in many countries around the world. Bales underlines the fact that precisely this tendency to empower globalization through the actions that define it is what creates the new slaves that most often are reduced to less than their quality of human beings.

An analysis of modern slavery represents, in a way, an overview of the negative aspects of globalization from an interdisciplinary point-of-view. Globalization is an extremely complex phenomenon because it touches on every aspect of the human life nowadays. For instance, a simple example to point out the magnitude of the discussion is the existence of Apple's products such as the iPhone 5 smartphone on the European and African market in the conditions in which Apple is an American corporation with most important manufacturing points in China and India.

The irony in this example relates to the fact Apple and the American corporations in general are the clear representatives of the capitalist world, one that was in dire conflict with the communist world, represented nowadays by China, the most populous country in the world.

The mirage of the capitalist world and in effect of the potential benefits of the globalization process has pushed forward the communist doctrine of China and the Asian country has become the fastest growing economy in the world, with an impressive level of statistics in term of employment and improving economic conditions. At the same time though, the Apple Corporation is by far one of the trademarks of the United States.

leaving political differences behind, the desire to make a profit being larger than that of ensuring the correct price hold or estimation. It is extremely important to point out the fact that in order to properly understand the issue of globalization and the role of the modern slaves into the equation, it must be analyzed from the point-of-view of the political, economic, and social stand.

These are the most important platform of discussion in terms of the general overview on globalization and in order to determine the role of modern slavery. From a political point-of-view, the role of modern slavery is fully encouraged at the unofficial level. There are numerous cases around the world in which the decision making bodies are well aware of the fact that slavery is taking place in the country and, despite this information, limit there actions to stop it.

One relevant example are the natural resource camps in countries such as Sierra Leone or Angola that made the headlines some years ago. Those camps were, without any doubt, run by the rebels opposing the Sierra Leone official government and the diamonds that were collected from the banks of the rivers in the country were used to finance insurgency actions and purchase of weaponry to fight the government. Despite the fact that the government was aware of such information, it preferred not to intervene in a decisive manner.

Those camps were populated with local people that were recruited violently from their villages and forced to work without pay. As Bales points out, there is no ownership right on those people, yet their freedom and rights no longer existed (p 6). Similar to the conditions of prostitutes in the brothels of some Asian and African countries, the people working on those camps were useful only to the extent to which they were able to work. Otherwise, they would suffer severe punishment and eventually die looking for river diamonds.

From this point-of-view, the practice of slavery in the 17th and 18th century was no different than what happens in such corners of the world. Even so, the political decision makers fail to take the necessary action to ensure the respect for the minimum right of the human being to enjoy freedom. From an economic point-of-view, the use of modern slavery is a practice that has been entrenched in recent decades as globalization has come to know new levels of development.

More precisely, the globalization processes admits a certain level of the trade flow in the sense that the competition on the global market has increased dramatically especially given the wide variety of products, the technological advancement and the refinement of the demand on the global market. Therefore, seeing that the quality of the products has increased proportionally with the demand, the need for a tie breaker in the consumer's choice is the price for that product or service.

The natural resources or the commodities have nowadays-similar standards of quality, regardless of the geographical origin. Yet the services are fully dependable on the specificities of the area where the services are provided because they take into account the local market as opposed to a global perspective. From this reason alone, the example provided previously, in which Apple's most important manufacturing locations are in China or India is most relevant. More precisely, the standard of living in China is much reduced to the one in the United States.

As a result of globalization and the completion, the need to reduce costs is essential. The labor costs are the most efficient way.
