Juliano O
In the first post, my colleague opted to focus on idealized influence in addition to inspirational support as an approach of quality improvement initiative. According to Khan et al (2020), idealized influence and inspirational support is a collective approach whereby transformational leaders use idealized influence to offer inspirational support. As highlighted by Juliano, idealized influence along with inspirational support enhances organizational support and improves employee satisfaction. Apart from improving employee satisfaction, the said approach improves employees’ intrinsic motivation by ensuring that leaders provide meaningful ideas with regard to tasks that will be performed by the said employees. In this case, leaders provide employees with tasks that are challenging and then motivate employees to achieve the said tasks (Kariuki, 2021). The author further suggest that the said approach improves employees’ commitment to their organization - leading to enhanced employee retention.
Linette B
In the second post, Linette B points out that transformational leadership brings considerable progress in healthcare. To achieve the said progress, Lysette indicates that leaders must maintain a culture that would foster trust and open communication. According to the Institute of Medicine (2004), trust increases the capacity of workers for change by lessening their discomfort and uncertainty with regard to change. As a result, development of trust fosters open and honest communication which leads to successful change efforts. Open communication involves individual consideration which happens to be an essential aspect in transformational leadership. In addition, the said form of communication helps create awareness as in the case of opioid use as highlighted by my colleague. Apart from improving cooperation between teams and creating awareness, open communication fosters transformational change by reducing interpersonal conflicts (Jankelova and Joniakova, 2021). With improved cooperation between teams and reduced interpersonal conflicts, commitment and self-respect is increased. In addition, emotional exhaustion is also reduced leading to improved quality of care.
