Sales Plan for a Non-Profit Organization
A non-profit organization is a group that is organized for purposes other than generating profits. The organization's income cannot be dispersed to any of its members, directors, or officers. Non-profit corporations are often called non-stock corporations. "Non-profit organizations include churches, public schools, public charities, public clinics and hospitals, political organizations, legal aid societies, volunteer services organizations, labor unions, professional associations, research institutes, museums, and some governmental agencies" (Non-profit organizations, n.d.). In regards to federal taxes, an organization is exempt from taxation as long as they are organized and operated exclusively for the purposes of religious, charitable, scientific, public safety, literary, educational, prevention of cruelty to children or animals, or to develop national or international sports (Non-profit organizations, n.d.).
Sales within a non-profit organization consist of fund raising. In order to be successful at fund raising an organization must start by coming up with a fund development plan. A good plan allows a company to properly focus on maximizing their fundraising efforts. A good fund development plan must have clear and concise goals. It must have a compelling case in order to gain support. It must contain donor recognition plans. It should also have projections of expenses, revenues and profitability along with a system for monitoring the implementation and execution of the plan (Fund Development Plan, 2009).
Having a good fund raising business plan helps a company to take the mystery out of fundraising for everyone that is involved. It is important to make sure that fund raising activity helps to carry out the overall development strategy that has been set down. Having a good plan helps to ensure that everyone knows what their part is and how it is going to be carried out. Fundraising is like any other business project in the fact that you must know where you are, where you want to be and have a good plan on how to get there.
Fundraising is the practice of soliciting and gathering contributions of money or other resources, by requesting donations from individuals or businesses among other sources. The different types of fundraisers are numerous. Some groups choose to hold auctions or raffles in which they make profits off the sale goods that have been donated. Others choose from many different types of activities such as a walk-a-thon or bowl -a-thon. During these events money is raised by donations from supporters based on how many times, or for how long a specific activity is accomplished (What are the Different Types of Fundraisers, 2009). Tele-a-thons are also very popular ways for some nonprofit organizations to raise money.
Fundraising is not always an easy thing to do but it is a very vital function for all nonprofit organizations. It is so vital because this is the way that these organizations obtain the funds that they need to go about doing what their organization was originally set up to do. These campaigns are usually their only source of income. So in order for the organization to continue to carry out its mission they must develop and carry out a successful funding campaign. The very existence of some of these organizations hinges on carrying out successful fundraising.
