Social Group 2 Summary The following is a general critique of the Group 2 Summary. The summary begins well with an overt and clear statement of the central issues and problem. However, a more direct reference to the term "diversity issues" and perhaps a more academic definition of this term could be mentioned at the beginning to reinforce the argument put forward in the first section or paragraph of the discussion summary. This could lead to your opening quotation.

For example: a definition of diversity issues in social work would be; "Social workers should recognize and respect the ethnic and cultural diversity of the societies in which they practice, taking account of individual, family, group and community differences"(Ethics in Social Work, Statement of Principles). You might prefer to include a better citation form your course reference works. You should also give full references depending on the reference style being used -- such as author or authors, date of publication and page number.

The second critique of the group summary is that it does not reference academic research models and types in the discussion, although these are implied.

Although this is not central to the question being asked it is also important to note that an explanatory rather than a descriptive type of study is best suited to the issue of ensuring that diversity issues are dealt with adequately; for example, you could add at the end of the first section a sentence or two that reads something like; "To this end one should consider the importance of qualitative and more discursive forms of research methodology, such as descriptive research techniques that need to be taken into account in dealing with diversity issues." Thirdly there are some grammatically incorrect and clumsy sentence constructions which obscure the meaning of what is being said.

At the end of the first section the following sentence needs to be restructured, i.e; Whether it be from a certain group's ability (or lack thereof) to participate in a study or data gathering process or from the interpretation and analyzing of the results, this ability may vary across cultural groups and therefore workers need to be aware and make accommodations to allow for this.

This could be rephrased as: Various groups have different requirements and abilities in terms of adequate and equable research that takes into account diversity; for example, different groups may have differing degrees of ability to participate in a study or data gathering process and require different interactive methodologies. The social worker therefore needs to be cognizant of these variations and differences and to make allowance for them in the process of research.

The second section was, I felt, appropriate and well stated in terms of the intention that lies behind the research. Please go over grammar here, e.g. After all is not one word; reins should not have an apostrophe. The last paragraph needs some work.

I refer to the following section: Using empowerment research is essential to assuring diversity issues are considered because they value minority perspectives whether they "agree" with them or not and helps to make the research process and its findings more relevant and tangible for both the clients and social workers. Involving clients throughout the process gives a better understanding of the research and what is being done which therefore generates interest and relevancy for them.

For the worker, using this approach helps to bring the research from the paper into practice because it has involved clients throughout This is not very clear. I have rewritten it as follows. You can follow the sense of this rewriting and make your own adjustments. The use of empowerment research to enable the assurance of diversity issues and requirements is considered due to the fact.
