Royal Solar Lightning Company Limited Strategic Plan (2018/2019 - 2013/2014)
Royal Solar is one of the best renewable energy companies, owing to its spectacular set of values and goals. We mainly supply developing countries with clean sustainable energy. With the current fierce competition, we are experiencing, it behooves us to get back to the drawing board and restructure our organization, in preparation for the new innovative products we plan to introduce so as to keep our business profitable. Below is a detailed account of our strategy that will see us remain at the top of competition. (Abe et.al 2011)
Vision statement
To provide at least 70 % of the poor and mid-level households in developing countries with clean affordable energy. (Aissou et.al 2015)
Mission statement
With our expertise, passion, excellent teamwork, and customer satisfaction and sustainability being our leading principles, we provide clean energy solutions to the remotest household in the developing countries.
Our values
Royal Solar Company has over the years enforced a set of values which largely dictate the way we run our business. The values have become more of a culture for the company. It is no coincidence that the values spell out CARING, not only for the stakeholders, but for the consumers and the society in general.
Committed
Royal Solar company remains loyal to the stakeholders through thick and thin.
Attitude
All the stakeholders of Royal Solar Company believe that they can achieve whatever goal they make.
Resourceful
We carefully manage the resources available to us, so as to achieve best results without any form of wastefulness.
Integrity
Nothing is more valued at Royal Solar Company than being ethical in every activity we do. We strive to remain honest, fair and just in all our deals.
Nimble
Royal Solar Company aims to remain in business no matter how much the environment changes negatively, basically by embracing innovation and smart entrepreneurial skills. (Abe et.al 2011)
Greatness
Royal Solar Company is the most adored sustainable energy firm, owing to its continued efforts to create innovative products of highest quality. The customers love our products, and this is evidenced by the millions of sales we have already made.
Digitalization of Solar Energy
With virtually everything in the current world going digital, Royal Solar Company will not want to be left behind. Digitalization is foreseen to aid decentralization of supply of energy. (Abe et.al 2011)
Thus, Royal Solar Company has taken the step to install a variety of digital machines in the solar storage boxes. We understand this digital trend is the desire of most consumers and therefore we have to satisfy their needs. (Aissou et.al 2015)
Also, this digitalization trend has created more business opportunities for the photo-voltaic industry. For instance, local energy management is of late looking into more self-consumption and making PV systems participate in virtual power plants. Thus, Royal Solar company can be said to be at par with the current trends and won’t relent any time soon.
Elevator Pitch
Founded in 2008, Royal Solar Company has so far had close to 2 million customers in the developing countries. The majority of these are found in sub-Saharan Africa. (Abe et.al 2011) The digitalization initiative is set to attract an additional half a million customers, this year alone.
Goals
The overall long-term goal for Royal Solar Company is to be a global leader in sustainable energy solutions. The proposed time-frame is 5 years from now. One set-back we will surely meet is the fact that many households in the target countries already have alternative sources of energy, such as electricity. (Aissou et.al 2015) This may however work for our good in areas where electricity costs are high.
Another goal is to enable online payments by clients. This will greatly improve the efficiency of our system as the customers can make the payments at their own convenience. The company will also cut down operational costs associated with physically receiving payments from clients. Thus, our dream of adding 500,000 new customers this coming year is very valid.
Key Performance Indicators
We are planning to form a team of 10 experts to continuously evaluate the response of clients to this new digitalization initiative. The key things they are expected to assess and report to the management on a monthly basis include:
- Number of clients newly registered
- Sales volume of the digital systems
- Negative and positive feedback from the consumers
- Whether most consumers prefer the old or the new system.
These monthly reports will enable the management to evaluate the performance of the new product in the market. The company is confident that within the first three months, we will have reached half our target sales.
Target Customers
Following our several years in operation, we can comfortably say that the company has enough details of who its target customers are. However, with the new innovation, we will engage the services of the sales and marketing department to identify more customers, especially from Asia and Europe. It will be good if the customers are well spread geographically so as to always stay in business. (Abe et.al 2011) Our target is 80,000 and 200,000 households in Europe and Asia respectively, within the first 3 months. If this succeeds, the company will have proven its ability to stay ahead of the competition.
Industry Analysis
It is common knowledge that the third world countries are the ones in need of affordable clean energy far above the developed countries. (Aissou et.al 2015) Royal Solar Company will nevertheless continue conducting industrial analyses so as to be in the know the moment any change worth the company’s attention takes place.
Competitive analysis and advantage
After a recent analysis of our competitors, we concluded the following:
Our number one competitor is AMERESCO, which also deals with digitized solar power systems. A close analysis of their products however reveals massive flaws, regarding quality and breakage rates. Royal Solar company can therefore use this as a loophole to outdo them by far. (Abe et.al 2011)
Other firms deal with non-solar energy products, which are again a bit costly compared to our products. This is also to our advantage since we can smartly adjust our prices to beat them.
Marketing Plan
To excel in the market for many years, Royal Solar Company is tasked with maintaining its current clientele as well as prospecting for new ones constantly. The sales and marketing department will therefore be slightly expanded so as to increase the company’s vigilance on market research.
Team
The company would not have come this far without a competent team. However, with the looming change in product, and the expected tough competition, the staff was sensitized on the need to adapt to any changes that might arise. Good news is that the current staff will be retained. However, the company has to invite additional staff with the technical know-how of digitalization.
Operations Plan
As stated earlier, the company has to continue prospecting for new clientele. This responsibility has been given to professor John McKanzy, together with a small team. Theirs is one crucial role since the future profitability of the company lays in their hands.
Customer complaints
We want to form one new department to exclusively handle customer’s complaints and subsequently solve them. There is nothing else we treasure more than customer satisfaction. This goes a long way in winning the trust of the current and future customers. (Lumsden et.al 2002)
We have added Mr. Robustus Muthama and Julius Nyong to the IT department. These are more knowledgeable in the digitized systems. They are tasked with ensuring the transmission system and power storage are well prepared and operated to satisfy the demand. (Aissou et.al 2015)
Professor Johnston Muthama will be in charge of quality control. All products will pass through him for approval or disapproval before going out into the market. (Xiao et.al 2011)
Finances
Below is a projection of the company’s sales and profits for the next 5 years, given we successfully implement this strategic plan.
DURATION
SALES (DOLLARS)
PROFIT (DOLLARS)

3-MONTHS
34,500,000
1,500,000

1 YEAR
853,000,000
6,500,000

5 YEARS

It is evident from the figures that Royal Solar Power Company will be the most profitable energy solutions firm in the world.
