Values Conflict Universities Provide An Amazing Opportunity Essay

Values Conflict Universities provide an amazing opportunity for both growth and development in regards to academic development. Universities in particular provide a means of providing a stable and more robust income for individuals seeking a particular specialization. The University of Phoenix, in particular, has a unique method of teaching and providing a quality educational experience. Small class sizes, online specialization, and knowledgeable professors all make the university experience all the more manageable. However, I personally have experienced conflict of values that undermine the overall university experience. This conflict pertains mainly to the notion of academic honesty. I have encountered instances where many of the university values would be compromised by actions. Cheating is particularly important in a university setting. As such, having strong values and convictions regarding cheating is important within the overall university setting (Stuart, 2006).

The experience, looking back, was not unique to me. In fact, many students undergo similar instances in their own academic career. The concept of cheating is primarily prevalent within the younger student population. This scenario has occurred in my personal career at the University of Phoenix. In many instances, online classes pose the most opportune time to cheat. Many students believe themselves to be immune to the overall scope of university punishment in the event that cheating is caught. As such, they recklessly resort to cheating as means to "get by" in a challenging class or academic setting.
A situation occurred with a particular written document in class. This document requirement was given with the first week of class. Every student who attended the first class was aware of the requirement. Those students, who were proactive, completed the assignment early with rave reviews from the professor. However, some student waited too late to complete the assignment. As they procrastinated, other course work began to accumulate. Exams, mid-terms, group projects, and papers began to accumulate. As such, the quality of their work began to deteriorate with each mounting assignment. To compensate for this shortfall, student began to cheap to better accomplish their overall goal. As such, students asked me to write their paper and other course materials for them. I thankfully, resorted to reprimand rather than work. I realized that cheating does nothing for either party.
