(2023) covering more than 23,000 participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) underscored the significant impact of hypertension on mortality, with fully half of the deaths from coronary heart disease and stroke occurring among individuals with hypertension. Despite extensive efforts to address hypertension nationwide, achieving treatment and control remains a substantial public health challenge due to its strong association with increased coronary vascular disease (CVD) risk, particularly stroke and heart failure (Abrahamowicz et al., 2023).
Disparities persist especially among racial and ethnic minority groups. Recent analyses from NHANES identified lower blood pressure control rates among Hispanic, non-Hispanic Black, and Asian American individuals compared to non-Hispanic white Americans.
