This personal statement traces the applicant's journey from working as a pharmacy technician at St. Takla pharmacy in Lebanon to pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree in the United States. The essay highlights the applicant's academic foundation in pre-pharmacy coursework, hands-on professional experience, and strong interpersonal skills developed through direct patient interaction. It articulates both short-term goals — earning the PharmD degree required for licensure — and a long-term entrepreneurial ambition to open and operate an independent pharmacy.
Imagine yourself not so long ago in a pharmacy called St. Takla in Lebanon. There I am, behind the desk, learning about the drugs I dispense, their interactions and side effects, and interacting with patients — all while my heart is filled with dreams of studying in America to become a licensed pharmacist with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
At the time, my future was only a dream, but I believed that strong skills in mathematics, chemistry, and biology made my chosen career path a certain one. My record of achievement in pre-pharmacy study — and, just as importantly, my genuine enjoyment of those two years — further convinced me that I was destined to pursue pharmacy. My love of communicating with customers during my work experience only confirmed that desire.
I thrived on the daily routine of the pharmacy and its environment. If you had been there to see me, you would have found me smiling, heard calm and competent advice come from my lips, and perhaps caught an inkling of my aspirations in my enthusiasm. Working in a community pharmacy setting taught me that the profession demands both scientific knowledge and genuine human connection.
