What is Law?

Law as an academic subject examines the rules, institutions, and processes that govern individual and collective behavior, making it relevant across disciplines including criminal justice, political science, business, and ethics. Students encounter legal topics in courses ranging from paralegal studies to corporate management, often because law sits at the intersection of government authority, individual rights, and social order. The field is academically rich precisely because legal questions rarely have simple answers — statutes must be interpreted, rights must be balanced, and policies must be evaluated against their real-world consequences. Topics like the Civil Rights Act of 1964, juvenile delinquency, labor law, and military policy illustrate how legal frameworks shape everyday life at both institutional and individual levels.

Papers on this topic take a wide range of approaches. Some focus on specific legislation or landmark cases, such as Cipollone v. Liggett Group, analyzing how courts interpret commerce and liability. Others adopt a policy lens, examining issues like the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy or juvenile crime reform within the criminal justice system. Professional and applied angles also appear, including the legal implications facing practitioners like nutritional consultants and the responsibilities of corporate ombudsmen investigating wrongdoing. This variety reflects how legal study moves fluidly between doctrine, practice, and social impact.

A strong law essay anchors its thesis in a clearly defined legal issue and supports its argument with statutory language, case precedent, or documented policy outcomes rather than general assertions. Scoping the argument carefully — focusing on a specific jurisdiction, population, or legal question — prevents the essay from becoming superficial. The most common pitfall is conflating moral or personal judgments with legal analysis; effective legal writing distinguishes between what the law is and what a writer believes it should be.

Symbolic Interactionist Perspective Media Analysis
Social inequality is different from economic inequality, though related to some extent. Economic inequality is typically caused by unequal accumulation of wealth, whereas social inequality has many different forms. Gender inequality, racial inequality, caste inequality, or age inequality are all types of social inequality that may exist in a society not merely due to differences in financial statuses of individuals. People from different social statuses often live in separate localities which may not be the case with people from different economic statuses. Classic example of such an issue is that of African American class and the Jim Crow laws that were enacted in Northern United States between 1876 and 1965.

International Political Economics: The Impacts
International political economy tries to understand global and international problems through a diverse interdisciplinary arrangement of theoretical perspectives and analytical tools. International political economy focuses on the constant breakdown of disciplinary boundaries amid politics and economics. It not easy to image a world devoid of international political economy since mutual interaction of international economics and international relations is prevalent. The political activities of nations apparently influence international business and flow of money, which consequently affects the environment in which nations make political preferences, and entrepreneurs make economic preferences.

Popular Song Lyrics Poetry Has Its Origin
This paper deals with the question of whether lyrics to popular songs can be poetic. It suggests there is a "law of vagueness" whereby song lyrics are kept vague so that young audiences can identify with whatever is suggested by the emotional undercurrent of the music. It then analyzes the lyrics to two pop songs--Nirvana's 1991 grunge hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Hot Chelle Rae's 2011 anthem "Whatever"--in terms of their poetic content. Kurt Cobain's lyrics are analyzed in depth, in terms of their poetic method. Hot Chelle Rae is shown to be using much of the same material as in the classic Nirvana song, but doing so in a more marketable and less alienated fashion. The conclusion suggests that, if Kurt Cobain had not shot himself in 1994, then Hot Chelle Rae might have driven him to it.

Financial Crisis and Predatory Lending
What really caused the financial market to crash? Was it jobs being shipped overseas, or maybe a huge increase in consumer debt? There were actually a number of causes, but subprime lending and predatory lending practices were some of the largest. This paper examines how subprime and predatory lending became so popular and overlooked right before the housing bubble burst. It then looks to examine how this eventually generated the extreme financial situation that this country has still yet to get out of.

Internet Censorship and Freedom of Expression
Many people generally hold that speech on the Internet should be unstopped and uninhibited. However, this is far from a black and white issue. Ranging from situations like online sex predators to availability of bomb-making information to sites that recruit international terrorists, most people suggest at least some limitations to free speech online for at least a few reasons. Others view this authoritarianism.
