This paper compares Dante's Divine Comedy with Homer's The Odyssey. Dante's struggle is fundamentally an interior, poetic quest for spiritual salvation and Christian understanding. Homer's Odysseus is on a quest to find his home. Odysseus does not embody Christian ideals, but is a clever, heroic figure of the kind admired by the ancient Greeks.
