What is Research?

Research as a discipline sits at the foundation of nearly every academic field, from the natural sciences and medicine to social science, business, and education. Students across courses in sociology, organizational behavior, biology, marketing, and public policy are asked to engage with research not just as consumers of evidence but as practitioners who must design, evaluate, and defend systematic inquiry. What makes the topic academically compelling is its dual nature: research is both a subject of study and a method, requiring students to understand how data is gathered, how quality is assessed, and how evidence supports or challenges existing knowledge.

The archived papers on this topic span a wide range of approaches. Some take a methodological focus, examining qualitative research methods or the design of research proposals, as seen in work addressing the three strikes law. Others apply research frameworks to specific issues such as employee turnover, work-life balance, embryonic stem cell ethics, and the effects of video games on children. Still others move into organizational and market contexts, analyzing vision and mission statements or segmentation strategies, while some engage with social science literature and family structure comparisons. This variety reflects how research methodology adapts across disciplines rather than belonging to any single one.

A strong essay on research grounds its thesis in a clearly defined question and matches its chosen method to that question. Evidence drawn from peer-reviewed journals carries the most weight, and writers should demonstrate why their approach — qualitative, quantitative, or mixed — suits their subject. The most common pitfall is conflating topic breadth with analytical depth; a focused, well-supported argument about a specific aspect of research design or findings will always outperform a broad survey that substitutes coverage for rigor.

Dealing With Difficult Patients Translation of Evidence and Best Practice
Providing adequate care for an individual suffering from dementia presents many difficulties for nurses. Patients with dementia often have debilitating conditions such as Alzheimer's or similar neurologic diseases which are progressive, thereby making it challenging for them to remember, think lucidly, communicate effectively or complete activities of daily living. Furthermore, dementia can cause rapid variations in mood or even modify personality and behavior. With the tremendous number of elderly in society more and more nurses are required to care for patients with progressive dementias. It is imperative that a diagnosis be reached early in the course of the cognitive impairment and that the patient is closely monitored for coexisting morbidities. Nurses have a central role in assessment and management of individuals with progressive dementia. This essay provides some evidence-based practical strategies for managing the behavioral problems and communication difficulties often encountered in this population.

Criminological perspectives on racism throughout history
Racism has always been a defining feature of the American criminal justice system, including racial profiling, disparities in arrests convictions and sentencing between minorities and whites, and in the use of the death penalty. Racial profiling against blacks, immigrants and minorities has always existed in the American criminal justice system, as has the belief that minorities in general and blacks in particular are always more likely to commit crimes. American society and its legal system were founded on white supremacy going back to the colonial period, and critical race criminology would always consider these historical factors as well as the legal means to counter them.

Cognitive, language, and social development in infants and children
Cognitive Development The study of Cognitive Development may appear to be a unified discipline or organic cooperation among several disciplines; however, the research shows chasms between fields devoted to the study of human development. The four reviewed articles show differing approaches to developmental studies, with varying degrees of effectiveness. The level of effectiveness appears to hinge on the scholar's willingness to use a generous number of approaches to the analysis of human development. In sum, there are surprising number of approaches to a vital area of human study. While each author must, of course, limit his/her subject matter, it does appear that the more impressive and useful articles are written by authors who are more open to the use of multi-disciplinary sources. ?

Systematic review of ST-elevation myocardial infarction
OBJECTIVE: The door to balloon time is an important determinant of the prognosis of STEMI patients. To reduce D2B times, most centers implement a pre-hospital triage which involves the use of pre-hospital ECG to allow direct transfer of patients with confirmed STEMI to the PCI lab. Since most health facilities do not have PCI laboratories, a quick decision needs to be made regarding fibrinolytic therapy or transfer to a PCI facility. The most important factor determining this decision is the time taken from the onset of symptoms to arrival at a hospital facility and the predicted time duration for effective transfer. Through this systemic review, we sought to analyze the role of pre-hospital management in door to balloon time (D2B), door to needle (D2N) time and the long term mortality of STEMI patients.
