In September of 2007, Mr. Stone, a wildlife pathologist, and his daughter discovered the hazardous levels of lead in dozens of children's necklaces and bracelets sold at stores like Big Lots and Michaels after they tested children's jewelry Montana had bought or received as birthday gifts in Mr. Stone's lab in New York's Department of Environmental Conservation in Stonefield, NY. There were 56 pieces which contained high levels of lead, out of 75 pieces of jewelry tested (Story 1).

On the packages, only girls were playing with them, and the packages were decorated with bows.
Baby Born" is an infant doll that looks quite life-like. Again only girls were shown playing with these on the packaging. The girls' pictures were framed by hearts. Baby Born comes with bottles, rattles, and a blanket, so the toy is interactive. Thus girls are given interactive toys that nurture, while the boys are being given toys that encourage them to build and explore their world, especially at later ages.
The Wiggles" Musical Guitar" is a toy electric guitar that is played by pushing buttons placed along the neck. This toy is clearly aimed at boys. While it uses bright, primary colors, only young men are shown on the box, and the message is driven home as some of the buttons are shaped like boys as well. No girls are shown anywhere, perpetuating the…

Fred Meyer Toy Section
aisle sections of toys; about 1/3 gender neutral, about 1/2 boys, the rest girls. Themes seemed archetypal: Boys = trucks, guns, action figures; Girls = dolls, ovens, dress ups; Gender Neutral = puzzles, construction, science and art, plush (depending on age). Toys were grouped according to type: plush, art, dolls, etc. Asked for help, there was no one dedicated to toys; asked for a specific product, they "did not know" and "had not idea" if it was a stocked item. Toy section was between housewares, books, stationary and furniture -- almost everyone needs to walk by the toy section to get to any major department, depending on which door they come in.
Gender and Toys
In a sense, toys teach children a number of things: how to imagine their role in society, culture, and gender roles. While it is not as stereotypical as it…

Popular Toys for 4-year-Olds
Why Buzz, LeapStart, and T-Wrecks Top the List for Popularity With Four-Year-olds
Four-year-olds are at a stage involving lots of imagination and high levels of activity. And, their motor skills and conversation skills have significantly developed over that of a younger toddler. Because these skills are new, the child will be in wonderment of new toys that allow the child to use them. Currently, three of the hottest toys on the market for four-year-olds according to a Toys R Us employee include Buzz Lighyear, the LeapStart Learning Table, and the Hot Wheels T-Wrecks Playset (note: DVDs are currently very popular with children, but have not been included as a toy for the purposes of this paper). All of these toys exhibit the types of features that four years will naturally gravitate towards such as a high degree of tactile interaction via sound, color/light and moving parts…
.. progressing from simple colour identification to colour experimentation enables the child to explore and apply colour knowledge. (Color Center)
Other activities using the colour squares include creating mosaic designs, patterns and building structures. The child's small muscle and hand-eye coordination is improved by means of these exercises, which also helps to increase his attention span, develop and expand specific concepts and to generalize concepts. The development of visual and auditory memory is also promoted. ecause the purpose of block play is to assist the child in developing basic problem solving skills and language stimulation, the child is encouraged to verbalise his actions during the exercise which gives the child a sense of accomplishment.

Toddlers and Infants
This stage includes toddlers who grasp and suck to those who show signs of an internal representational system that shows development of problem solving sequence and deferred imitation. Berk, states that here "dramatic changes in the body and brain support the emergence of a wide array of motor, perceptual, and intellectual capacities and ?rst intimate ties to others" (Berk, 2009, p. 8). There are several options of the right type of toys for infants and toddlers. These include but not limited to play-dough, case of colors, bumpy ball, little tikes gas 'n go mower, Vtech ride and learn giraffe bike. Infants generally are not able to walk or carry out activities while on their own or outdoors.
According to Gabbard & odrigues (2008), toddlers and infants need activities that engage their sensory motor, a great toy for this type of function is bumby ball. The bumby ball…

Marketing Strategies: Adult Pleasure Toys and Lingerie
This report discusses the presence of a company that produces adult toys and lingerie. There are several parts to this analysis. First, the report examines the market segment and defines the target customer according to several types of segmentation. For a complete understanding of the targeted market, the report chose psychographic segmentation, demographic segmentation, behavioral segmentation and benefits sought segmentation.
The choice for these methods was a result of the type of product. The conclusion is that the targeted consumer is likely 20 to 45 and is driven by different motivations. In young age, the idea of experimentation is the primary motive, in the upper part of the age segment (30s and 40s) it is likely the need to experiment in the couple.
In terms of differentiation strategies, the report concludes that it is more difficult to differentiate based on the nature of…

However, crafts are not as personal as dolls; girls rarely name their craft sets or assign personalities to them. Also, many mass-marketed craft sets do not stimulate the imagination as well as dolls because the projects are based on set patterns. Painting by numbers, stained "glass" kts, or even some jewelry-making kits provide the girls with patterns to work with rather than asking them to design their own. Nevertheless, crafts and dolls both offer creative, hands-on play. Craft activities can be shared with friends or family members and can be geared toward specific or all age groups.
Similarly, board games are collective activities that appeal to girls of different ages. Board games may include simple games involving cards or chess, or may be complex like Monopoly. Yet unlike either dolls or crafts, board games cannot be played alone. They are designed to stimulate competition and social interaction. Furthermore, board games…
Super Toys Last Summer Long is a short story that is intriguing in the way they end, and they always have an interesting story. In film work, they serve the purpose of literature preservation and preservation of the content and meaning. There is differentiation in the film when David talks about running away, and in the novel is about getting abandoned. This shows that the film translation will take a different direction. There is an adoption of character of Dr. Hobby who is not present in the short story, and this also adds to the story. There is a change in concepts hence differentiates the film from the novel making one look at them differently.
The sentinel
The sentinel novel provides an alternative reading because of its adoption, which has variation from the film. It is also an adoption from the odyssey Greek play because it reproduces few elements from…
Toy Industry in Hong Kong
Hong Kong Toy Industry
The world toy industry in the world is growing tremendously and hence the need by many nations to invest in the sector. Among the nations, Hong Kong has been at the lime light, especially for being the leading economy in the industry. In conjunction with the Chinese mainland, the total accountability amount to 75% of the toys manufactured. The success of the operations have been credited to the ever developing market, constant customers, well-organized logistics, knowledge and a broad networking program for the marketing the end products. Famous brands developed for the industry include Playmates, May Cheong, Silverlit, Toy2R and Hot Toys.
Contextually, Silverlit is a family-oriented company but managed through the OEM, ODM and OBM bodies. It is situated in Dongguan but having no manufacturing operations in Hong Kong. Nevertheless, it has a large populous of employees and several branches…

Toy Fire Trucks and Diesel Engines
I have always been fascinated by mechanical equipment ever since I can remember. When I was a child in Jamaica, I remember that we had very few choices of toys to play with compared to children today, especially in the United States. I learned very quickly that it was always going to be up to me to keep my toys working properly and that I would be the one to have to fix them when they broke. Whether it was my bicycle or a small toy truck that had a mechanical motor, I always learned exactly how they worked and I came to understand what every single part of the device did, how it related to every other part of the device, and what would be the result if that part broke or malfunctioned.
I remember the first time that I experienced the satisfaction…
In this issue, the most effective decision for the company is quite clear. The retooling and reorganization of production machinery and other equipment/processes is also a consideration that makes a shift to level production appear beneficial; different production lines could be run with fewer changes in between, however materials and cash would be made less efficient as manufacturing would occur based on annual sales projections rather than on-demand on terms closer to the actual sales times. Storage and handling processes and costs must also be considered, but client and supplier issues really are not going to be significantly impacted by a change to level production.
Potential Savings
The potential for savings in the move from seasonal production to level production would involve savings in many areas, including over two hundred thousand dollars in savings just in overtime premiums. Other savings will be generated in direct labor costs by reduced costs…
Though Toys ‘R’ Us has recently announced bankruptcy and closures of its stores, a business ethics situation has arisen related to the compensation packages given by the company to its executives. As Held (2017) points out, “a bankruptcy judge has granted struggling retailer Toys R Us permission to pay millions of dollars in bonuses to executives after the company argued it was necessary to motivate its top brass during the critical holiday shopping season.” The problem, as Judy Robbins of the Justice Department’s U.S. Trustee Program has shown, is one of accountability. Ethically speaking, the bankruptcy court’s allowance of this goes against all sense of ethics and how a corporation should be expected to govern itself and be accountable to shareholders. But it also goes against the Bankruptcy Code as Robbins notes: “It defies logic and wisdom, not to mention the Bankruptcy Code, that a bankrupt company would now propose…
personality traits do leaders like Todd McFarlane possess that distinguish them from other individuals?
The most obvious characteristic which distinguishes Todd McFarlane from other individuals is his tremendous artistic talent. McFarlane created the famous comic book series Spawn, and has generated a corporate empire based on his cartoon designs and toys. However, there are many talented artists in the world. McFarlane is unique in his ability to design art that taps into his reader's needs and desires without seeming overly commercial. He is also innovative enough to generate three-dimensional toys that are equally striking as his cartoons, and savvy enough to manufacture them to make a profit.
McFarlane merges two distinct personas within his character: artist and entrepreneur. He is able to capitalize upon his talent financially while still remaining true to his craft and not seeming to 'sell out' in the eyes of famously fickle comic book readers who…

The proposal by the Chinese company JLPTC is attractive in terms of pricing. While price is an important factor and a key success factor in a lot of cases, there are other variables as well that need to be considered. As a consultant, it is important to state down the changes that are expected to take place objectively and then take a course of action based on that.
Some of these factors are how the supply chain will be impacted in terms of sourcing the products, logistics management, contract and service level scenarios, warehousing costs, inventory levels to keep, demand forecasting, level of information sharing as well as reliability, flexibility and responsiveness of the modified supply chain. (Swink, Melnyk, Cooper, & Hartley, 2011)
Discussing each in turn, the quality of the products that JLPTC makes will have to be a top concern, given that one of Otis…

An African-American individual and a drunken cowboy actually form a great team as they push back numerous gunslingers and as they manage to get the townsfolk to overcome their racist ideas in order to fight for their homes. When regarding matters from a more dramatic point-of-view, it seems perfectly normal to acknowledge that suffering unites people regardless of their skin color and background.
Richard Donner's film also emphasizes the importance of humor in the face of adversity. Jack rown, the central character in the film, is an African-American individual who is humiliated on a constant basis by his white patrons and who is even related to as being a toy. Donner practically produced an outrageous account, taking into consideration that he made a film about a white man buying and African-American for his son. However, the humorous nature of the motion picture is actually intended to emphasize that it would…
Both films provide interesting information and it is obvious that their directors were primarily concerned in making it possible for viewers to look at racism from a whole different perspective. African-Americans who initially seem unlikely to upgrade their social status eventually succeed to act in disagreement with odds and actually manage to trigger intense feelings in viewers. Their determination is certainly impressive and they are largely responsible for changing people's understanding of society's tendency to discriminate. While stereotypes appear to dominate most of the films' storylines, it gradually becomes obvious that they should not be taken into consideration and that, similar to most characters in the film, viewers have to acknowledge the wrongness associated with differentiating individuals.

The combined sales from al-Mart and Toys 'R Us account for a smaller percentage than these other distribution channels.
Another alternative may be to establish their own category killer store to replace Toys 'R Us. However, this is a risky move and is capital intensive. They would have to make certain that the market would be willing to accept this alternative. This alternative would require a heavy capital outlay and carries the greatest amount of risk. However, it may be a more cost effective alternative in the continuation of marketing research and product development. The costs and benefits of this alternative would have to be weighed against the risk.
In addition to expanding existing distribution channels other than al-Mart, toy manufacturers may wish to develop other distribution channels as well. For instance, they may wish to attempt to entice other retail establishments such as K-Mart, increase holdings in Target, Meijers…

gender is determined through social interaction, while sex is biological. Gender-specific behaviors are usually instilled in children by their families, by their communities, and the media, according to Professor Janet Moyles (Moyles, 2012). Moyles explains that typically children accept gender stereotypes, they "identify with the stereotypical role of the gender," and sometimes children (especially boys) "punish others who exhibit cross-gender behaviors and traits" (Moyles, 65). This paper delves into the issue of gender-based reasoning and references peer-reviewed research articles that investigate gender-related attraction to toys.
Girls that have congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) who had high levels of androgen when they were in the womb indicated "increased play with boys' toys" and less play with girls' toys (Berenbaum, et al., 1992). riting in the journal Psychological Science, the authors concluded that hormones (androgens) play a role in which toys girls play with and which toys boys play with. In other words,…

To succeed in a highly dynamic and competitive environment, business organizations must effectively execute their planning activities. They must judiciously formulate their long- and short-term goals and objectives. This ensures better anticipation of the ever uncertain future (Hill & Jones, 2013). Effective planning also ensures better utilization of organizational resources (Wittman & Reuter, 2008). With reference to Galaxy Toys, an American toy manufacturing company, this paper explores the planning process. In the first part, a SWOT analysis of the company is provided, along with a choice and justification of the best long-term planning decision for the company. In the second part, the paper differentiates between goals and objectives based on a formulated list of goals and objectives.
Part One: SWOT Analysis and Long-Term Planning
Founded in 1956 by George Jepson and his wife, Galaxy is involved in designing, manufacturing, and selling space-themed children's toys primarily in the U.S. The company…
Currently, 100 workers, working 20 days are producing 6000 units. That means that each worker is producing 6,000 / (100*20) = 3 units per day.
Given only those financial figures that have been provided, it is impossible to do a complete financial calculation. A huge part of the decision making for this scenario depends upon the marginal cost of additional production. Marginal cost refers to the cost of producing one more unit of a product (Sullivan & Sheffrin, 2003). In economies of scale, the greater the production, the lower the marginal cost, so that increasing production increases profit. However, there is not enough information to determine if this is true for Tinker's Toys, and, if so, to what number it would be true.
Improving Profitability
Without knowing the fixed costs and worker capability, it is impossible to determine some critical financial numbers. Can workers reasonably increase production or is a…

Ethical Behaviors of Mattel in the Toy Industry
The ethicacy of corporate behaviors are influenced by a myriad of factors yet most strongly reflect the internal culture, alignment of leadership to vision, and accumulated trade-offs made by management over years of ethical decisions, trade-offs and outcomes. In the study Mattel, Inc.: Global Manufacturing Principles (GMP) - A life-cycle analysis of a company-based code of conduct in the toy industry (Sethi, Veral, Shapiro, Emelianova, 2011) the authors successfully provide insights into the moral and ethical dilemmas of operating a multinational corporation (MNC) that is highly dependent on Global Manufacturing Principles (GMP). The life-cycle analysis of company-based code of conduct also illustrates how creating a solid ethical foundation using a Corporate Social esponsibility (CS) platform is only as effective as the aligning of senior management, vision and mission, and manufacturing, sourcing, supply chain and distribution is (Sethi, Veral, Shapiro, Emelianova, 2011). When…

Management as a discipline is generally concerned with the art and science of getting a group of people to achieve a defined goal or objective (Griffin, 2008). The discipline has evolved significantly over the last one century or so (Roth, 1998). In the first half of the 20th century, emphasis was largely placed on structure, authority, and production; with little or no attention to employees (Adetule, 2011). There has, however, been a tremendous shift of management focus from structure and authority to people (employees) over the years (Griffin, 2008). The evolution of management theory over time depicts the ever changing role of managers or leaders in organizations. Each management orientation or school of thought, however, presents its own merits and demerits. With reference to Galaxy Toys, Inc., an American toy manufacturing company, this case study provides an analysis of how the style of management in the organization has evolved from…
1. How did LEGO become one of the largest in the toy market?
Lego is presently one of the biggest and most renowned toy manufacturers across the globe. The actuality that a product offering as basic as the Lego Brick has continued to be considered pertinent within a progressively more digital world is remarkable. The company had been founded established in 1949 by founder Ole Kirk Christiansen. The main headquarters of the company are situated in Denmark. Over the years, the company has advanced from being a basic manufacturer of playsets made of wood to a conglomerate renowned for the manufacture of board games, plastic toys, books, retail stores, and theme parks.
In contemporary, LEGO is highly renowned for its product offerings utilized by consumers across the globe. The mission of the LEGO Group is to inspire and develop builders of the forthcoming days. On the other hand, the vision…

Product Dumping in the Developing Sphere
The United States maintains an array of consumer protections through government regulatory oversight that are designed to preempt or recall the distribution of potentially hazardous products, attire or medication. These standards are based on a combination of liability issues, public health matters and economic imperatives. As the discussion here notes, however, said standards vary considerably according to nation. This gap in needs between those living in industrialized nations vs. those in the developing spheres largely serves as a justification for the variation in standards. However, as denoted by the article "Made in the U.S.A. -- Dumped in Brazil, Africa, Iraq . . ." this variance often leads to practices on the part of U.S. manufacturers and government agencies that are highly vulnerable to ethical scrutiny.
Indeed, as the article in question shows, the United States has made a regular practice out of…

Over the Moon Toys: A Business Proposal
The following pages contain a financial overview and qualitative description of a proposed retail venture. A need for an independent toy store located within the confines of the municipality has been identified, with a growing number of consumers seeking alternatives to the "big-box" retailers and lower-quality merchandise. The project description provides greater detail regarding the focus of Over the Moon Toys, the proposed business, including the impetus for the creation of this business, market and sales expectations based on a qualitative analysis of the local consumer base, and a discussion of the physical location within the community that might best serve this community and the proposed business. Following this project description, a work schedule breakdown and related financial details and estimates of the project are provided. A series of relatively simple yet highly interconnected and dependent tasks will lead to the…
Organizing
Assuming the role of Itza Yu, explain the role of a manager in the organizing phase of the POLC and identify and discuss five major issues that Itza Yu must address in organizing the production floor for both existing production and the new project
The role of a manager in the organizing phase of the POLC encompasses organizing of the team and also distribution of resources and materials in accordance to the initial plan set. Two significant elements in this phase include work assignment and granting authority. Therefore, Itza Yu has to identify the various roles and make certain that the right and fitting number of employees are assigned to undertake the plan. In addition, Itza Yu will need to delegate power, assign work, and give direction to the team (Carpenter et al., 2009). Itza Yu must address five major issues in organizing the production floor for both existing…
In fact, the Toy is considered to be one of the most racist films of all time due to these issues (Sastry).
Blazing Saddles and the Toy approach comedy from distinct perspectives, and although they may have common elements, the differences in their approach to humor, comedy, and race allow the audience to understand why Blazing Saddles is successful in its commentary on society and why the Toy fails miserably at changing people's perspectives about society in a positive way. Brooks's approach to race and social status helps to redefine how blacks were viewed in cinema, and also helps to demonstrate that previous cinematic depictions have been skewed due the control exercised by Hollywood executives. On the other hand, Donner's approach to race and social status ends up being degrading, racist, and further reinforces negative stereotypes of race and social status. It is through these various depictions and approaches that…

However,
the toys themselves had a distinctly gendered feel.
While the author recalled Legos as gender-neutral, they did not appear
gender neutral in the toy-store setting. Instead, the Lego products were
based on action movies, such as tar Wars and Indiana Jones or else
featured something called a Bionicle, which appeared to be some type of
robot. There were some Legos called Clickits, which were pink and white
and featured teenage-looking cartoon-character girls. However, the Lego
sets from the author's youth, which featured blocks and other features to
build gender-neutral items like towns, simply were not present. Instead,
the Legos seemed less free-form and more structured, and came in boxes to
build specific designs, almost all of them masculine in stereotyping.
The other building materials were similarly gender-differentiated.
While the toy store had apparently gender-neutral building toys like Tinker
Toys and Mega Blocks, they also managed to capitalize on stereotyping.…

Case #8: Global Strategies
Critically evaluate Dolce & Gabbana's decision to launch 15 new stores in China
Dolce & Gabbana's decision to launch 15 new stores in China is a smart one. First, the U.S. Visa process is making it difficult for Chinese tourists to shop here, so D&G will have to take business there in order to get to those Chinese consumers who cannot buy here. Secondly, sales of luxury goods in mainland China were expected to reach $16.9 Billion dollars in 2011, which is a huge market, so G&B is going after some of those Billions. Third, G&B already has 26 stores there, so they are already known in China and G&B already know they can successfully sell in China. Fourth, they can sell a lifestyle of D&G, just as Ralph Lauren did, so that people will buy new products that support that imagined lifestyle.

Chlorine is present in many types of PVC plastic.
Bisphenol -- A - this chemical is associated with polycarbonate plastic, which is often used in baby bottles and the lining of plastic food containers. It can lead to hyperactivity in children and it can weaken their ability to learn, as well.
Lead is present in a large percentage of toys, as studies indicate. A consumer group that tests children's toys and other products says, "Lead was detected in 18% (119) of the 669 products we tested. The current federal toy recall standard used for lead material in substrates is 300 ppm. This standard applies only to children's toys - not to any other consumer products. Three percent (17) of products tested had levels above the 300 ppm" (Editors, 2010). They include a list of toys and other children's products with high levels of lead and other chemicals on their Web…

..hile older children and adults understand the inherent bias of advertising, younger children do not, and therefore tend to interpret commercial claims and appeals as accurate and truthful information," said psychologist Dale Kunkel, Ph.D., Professor of Communication at the University of California at Santa Barbara and senior author of the task force's scientific report. (Kunkel, et.al, 2004)
The Lego ads, when seen by younger children who "do not understand persuasive intent in advertising," might feel as if the balance of the world really does hang in their hands -- and an older child might be confused by the overlapping techniques of advertising, which blur the lines between advertising with a persuasive ulterior motive to encourage consumption, and entertainment in the form of cartoons. This confusion might be another reason for the greater efficacy of movie and product tie-ins with children's advertising."(Briesch, Bridges, & Kim, 2004) This fact is seconded by…

While making false statements about the vehicle's history is certainly deceitful and unfair, those types of statements fall far short of the legal definition of "fraud" because they are not considered material to the sale (Halbert & Ingulli, 2008).
The Toys "" Us situation unfair and unethical but did not violate any laws; in those cases it is strictly up to the company to establish policies to prohibit conduct that is unfair to customers and to the general public. Generally, the law only establishes standards of conduct that are sufficiently unjust that criminal enforcement is appropriate; it is not a substitute for ethical judgment. Those who conform only to the minimum standards imposed by criminal statutes may often engage in conduct that is extremely immoral but not necessarily illegal. Therefore, it is up to the individual to make ethical decisions in many instances. In that regard, social mores and family…

" Green stated loss leaders in particular have a drastic effect on those brands that are deeply discounted in the process. According to Green, when consumers see such deep discounts on specific toy items, there is an assumption that such toys are "fads," or popular only in the short-term. Particularly, if other retailers respond to such deep pricing gashes, as did many retail toy outlets in response to Wal-Mart in 2003, this image of a temporary toy fad is increased. According to Green, such actions can actually cause a toy to 'die,' or become less popular, resulting in less sales for the toy manufacturer (Hotten, 47).
However, such critics fail to note the less partisan view of Wal-Mart's actions, which note the place of such actions in the global capitalist economy (Lohr, C5). As obert B. eich, former labor secretary, noted, Wal-Mart's actions and dealings in business represent the true…

Mattel Inc. is a company that was founded in 1944 by Elliot and uth Handler that designs, manufactures, and markets a huge range of toy products. The firm is headquartered in California with its core product lines including Hot Wheels die-cast vehicles, Barbie fashion dolls, Disney toys, Fisher-Price preschool toys, and games like Scrabble. While Mattel also manufactures its toy products based on license agreements with movie makers, most of its toys are produced outside its huge market in the United States i.e. Southeast Asia. Actually, the firm's principal manufacturing facilities are located in several countries in Southeast Asia like Malaysia, China, Thailand, Indonesia, and even Mexico. Since its inception, the company has continued to experience significant growth that enables it to generate huge revenues. By 2007, its revenues had grown to $5.97 billion with its three largest customers accounting for 41% of sales across the globe.…

The company was in a difficult position during the previous year, losing significantly to discounter Target or to Wal-Mart and it even had to announce that it may leave the toy industry if things are not likely to improve during the next period of time. In order to "thin inventory," the company came up with heavy discount policies and gift cards to increase the volume of sales.
According to Dhruv Grewal, professor of marketing and retail at abson College, "it's time for Toys R Us to think outside the box." ut analysts say that Toys R Us may need more ideas, such as unique gift card options and co-op branding with other retailers to survive
Another type of policy used by toy retailers is to expand the categories so that people buy at one time, including books, music, video games and DVDs (as an advantageous package). This type of policy…

Organizational Decisions-Making on Substandard Products
Unaccountable products from companies or manufacturers are often regarded dangerous, unsafe and substandard, both by the target consumers and government. Unfortunately, toy products stand among the most affected group of items within the field of production. Sub-standard products are those that do not meet the legal and safety standards and/or qualities set by the pertinent authorities. Such products may result due to failure in quality control during the production process, or failure in legal handling pursuit. According to Cockburn (2005), these are genuine items produced by legitimate manufacturers; however, they do not satisfy the quality disclaimers that the producer defines. It may not be intent of the company to cheat, but may be as a result of problems during the manufacturing process. Thecase of metal whistle herein is thereby regarded to fall under the category of sub-standard products,…

Clinique and Sony invested in the Web Sitcom "Sufei's Diary" because they were trying to reach out to their target audience in non-traditional ways. Clinique has a small market share and this is a way to improve the market share by targeting an older, more upscale demographic because Sufei comes from a wealthy family. The Clinque products are actually used in the storyline (called product placement) and due to the popularity of the series, they can get into the minds of potential customers. Additionally, there are a number of other advantages, where the Sony followed this premise by having their products such as televisions and digital cameras used in the show. This is a way for a brand with a lot of competition to differentiate itself. Sony was also the producer of the video series, so they could also have name recognition at the beginning and ending of each…
Devise P and marketing strategies to earn greater trust, typing their performance back to the perceptual maps as a measure of performance. This is also a critical step as it will show the progress over time of selected marketing and P strategies to gain greater trust and credibility back.
Develop Voice of the Customer Programs and aggressively pursue getting channel members involved. Getting customers to have a sense of ownership over the products and also showing the willingness to act on their feedback is also critical for getting the company trusted again, and also ensuring product strategies are aligned with customer needs.
Initiate a Partner elationship Management system to measure the financial implications of both the recall and marketing strategies on the performance of channel partners and resellers.

Barbie doll top ten viral commercials as of 2013 rely mostly on You Tube, Dailymotion, Facebook and Twitter.
The third doll brand, subject to this study is Bratz. As evidenced from the four commercials assessed in the course of this study, Bratz deploys a slightly different mode of advertising, which involves marketing adult entertainment to kids. Social psychologists have argued that this strategy is very effective within the realm of modern-day material culture. Adult entertainment, which often involves depiction of violence, sex, strong language and obscenity, has become very popular among children
. For Bratz, one of the most popular commercials involves cowgirls in Texas fighting crime modelled along the risque film group Charlie's Angels. The use of guns to depict violence is central to this commercial, which has since increased the brand's digital reach through pervasive advertising on TV and in the internet. In a similar commercial, Bratz acquired…

Discussion 1
Corporations that produce products for children are in a position of great trust. Parents cannot inspect the factories owned by every toy manufacturer, to ensure that the facilities are free from lead or other banned products. Creating a toy for a small child that can be toxic if it is chewed is like leaving a swimming pool open without a fence -- an attractive nuisance something that is inviting children to take a dangerous risk and is therefore illegal.
Discussion 2 different issue arises with toys with small parts that could be hazardous if handled by a very young child but not by an older child. Companies label their toys to indicate if the toy is suitable for young children, and if children under a certain age should not use the toy. Some toys can be dangerous for young children if they are used inappropriately. It is not…
Jack used some elements of guilt surrounding his hospitalization in an attempt to persuade his mother to get him a treat at the cafeteria. This attempt to maintain control over his mother is appropriate to this developmental age according to Erickson's stages of development, and Donna easily managed his request by explaining that his diet was restricted prior to surgery. Jack was able to accept this answer, but continued to request assurances he would obtain the treat later in the day. Jack responded appropriately to all staff requests and his behavior appeared age appropriate and unremarkable. He maintained eye contact with staff and initiated conversation on several occasions.
The staff provided some coloring books and paper for Jack once he was confined to his bed in preparation for surgery. Jack appeared to be able to manage crayons without difficulty and easily wrote his name in block capital letters which were…

Nairn sees these Barbies as being tortured to destroy the doll's perfection, but the same children (I have noticed from observing female relatives) may demand a new Barbie, even after treating the old one carelessly.
Additionally, not all Barbies are disposed of. In fact, there is a thriving industry of adults who collect Barbies. These Barbies embody characters from famous old films, new films, or characters from around the world. Even some Barbies marketed at younger girls that are reasonably priced like those of the Twilight series of Barbies, are clearly not disposable. Barbies run the gamut from the cheap to the beautifully coiffured, yet all of them suggest a model of femininity that is similar: adult and girlish at the same time. Even as early as the 1960s, according to the website "Barbie's Career History," Barbie was used to embody 'acceptable' female occupations for young women, including that of…

Entrepreneurship and Small Business
A business plan serves as the blueprint for the business. It explains what the business is, why it works, and how it will compete in the marketplace. As such, it provides some structure for the entrepreneur during the formative stage of the business where the ideas are first being generated and decided upon. The business plan can provide clarity during this stage, and help the entrepreneur to understand all of the different aspects of the business (Millyard, 2016). The business plan also plays a couple of other critical roles in the business.
The first of these roles is that the business plan is an essential element of obtaining financing. Kazoo was able to acquire a $500,000 loan from the bank, and this was only possible because there was a solid business plan in place. The business plan shows potential investors/creditors that the company understands its target…

Supertoys Last All Summer Long Analysis
Perceptions of Reality in "Super-Toys Last All Summer Long"
"Super-Toys Last All Summer Long" is a short science fiction story by Brian Aldriss in which machines have been created to make life for humans easier. In the story, David finds it difficult to connect to his mother, Monica Swinton, and cannot bring himself to tell her that he loves her. While Monica appears distraught at her inability to connect to David, it is ultimately revealed that David was never meant to be a permanent addition to the Swinton family, despite the relationship that has been formed. In the story, the issue of what is real and what is not becomes a central focus as humanity attempts to create machines that are as human as possible, without being human. Teddy's, one of David's toys, assertion, "No one knows what 'real' really means," demonstrates how technology…
Mr. Mayor:
Every day, our police officers put their lives on the line to defend law-abiding citizens. It is imperative that a police officer's judgment is trusted, so officers can with full confidence perform their duties and know that they will not be 'second-guessed' when they act in good faith. In this instance, the officer was pursuing a suspect who was apparently armed and dangerous. Given the circumstances of the situation, it was reasonable for him to believe that the suspect was holding a gun. The suspect was behaving in an aggressive and threatening manner. The officer in question did not 'shoot to kill,' but shot to disarm the suspect instead. He had a responsibility not only to his own safety but to preserve the safety of his fellow officers and the safety of the community, as part of his duties.
In this instance, it was fortunate that the officer…

General Economic Environment
Mattel Incorporated's general economic environment in the United States is favorable, since the income distribution among U.S. consumers of Mattel Inc. products are relatively higher compared to other regions where Mattel Inc. is internationally located. For example, Asian consumers purchase relatively less number of Mattel products because of the high costs of these products when they are marketed and sold internationally. Income is also affected in the current social and political states of countries wherein Mattel Inc. sells its products. Because Asian countries tend to have more social and political instability, there is also financial instability as a result. Thus, because of financial instability, income is lower, thereby resulting to lesser consumption of toy products, which is not considered a priority among Asian households and consumers. Therefore, there are higher economic returns for Mattel Inc. For its European, North, and Central America regions compared to Asia-Pacific…

The answer to the question as to whether manufacturers of products for children have special obligations to consumers and society is fairly obvious (“Of course they do!”), but it remains less clear what specific responsibilities are involved. After all, children are not “little adults” and their worlds are still full of magic and mystery, and anything and everything can be a toy. Consequently, major toy manufacturers have a fundamental responsibility to consumers and society alike to ensure that their products are not only safe for rigorous, extended play, but that these products also conform to social standards and values that are reflecting of the larger societies in which they compete.
This means that because social standards and values change from time to time and over time, children’s product manufacturers also have a responsibility to avoid the use of stereotypical characterizations that perpetuate unfounded gender and racially based beliefs about others.…

4. Do you think that Astro Boy will be successful? Why?
This is a difficult question to answer simply and unequivocally. On the one hand, it is relatively certain that the character of Astro Boy will be a success in a financial and commercial sense. Part of the reason for this is that the impetus and popularity of global youth culture is behind anime and characters like Astro Boy. The large companies like Sony have taken cognizance of this global enthusiasm and popularity and they are fully prepared to exploit it and to raise the character to the level of cult status through marketing, advertising and film.
However, there is a certain degree of danger in this commercialization. It may have the effect of alienating the hardcore fans and fan base. Anime as a global youth culture has been firmly rooted in the unconventional aspects of the medium and in…

Ten years ago when the Rescue Heroes line was launched the teamwork concept had just started taking root and remains viable even in a society as individualistic as ours. Five years ago the term teamwork remained an effective marketing tool. Moreover, the types of occupations symbolized by the Rescue Heroes are team-oriented and do impart positive social values. Therefore, Fisher Price has successfully leveraged a key social value and used it to sell their products.
I would not change the Fisher Price approach. However, Fisher Price could expand the product line to include modular play stations. These play stations would allow for children to truly amass a team of Rescue Heroes and play with their friends. The Rescue Heroes should ideally include non-white and female models. Currently, all models are white males. Blatant gender and ethnic stereotyping hurts the product line and goes against the concept of teamwork the company…

ccording to Furstenberg (2003), the problem regarding teenage childbearing is misplaced. Instead of seeking ways to limit it, one should ask why it is problematic. Shattering many of the myths of teen childbearing -- showing, for instance, that many of the mothers do go on to become productive members of society (sometimes on a footing with 'regular mother), and that these mothers ultimately acted better for themselves than had they married the person who would have, likely, ruined their lives, as well as that there is little statistical numerical difference between the numbers of white and black premarital birth, and that teenage birth was always common but only became problematic when it occurred outside marriage (starting off first with the Blacks and then progressing to Whites)…
According to Furstenberg (2003), the problem regarding teenage childbearing is misplaced. Instead of seeking ways to limit it, one should ask why it is problematic. Shattering many of the myths of teen childbearing -- showing, for instance, that many of the mothers do go on to become productive members of society (sometimes on a footing with 'regular mother), and that these mothers ultimately acted better for themselves than had they married the person who would have, likely, ruined their lives, as well as that there is little statistical numerical difference between the numbers of white and black premarital birth, and that teenage birth was always common but only became problematic when it occurred outside marriage (starting off first with the Blacks and then progressing to Whites) - Furstenberg shows that disapproval is relegated solely to America's evangelical Christian minority views. In this way, the entire issue of pre-martial teen motherhood it serves as social construction fueled by a nation's ideology, and that in basis there should be hardly any problem whatsoever. The problem, Furstenberg asserts, is not that teens are having children -- teens always did -- but that this is happening outside wedlock and this contravenes with the Evangelical (not Puritan (as popularly thought) mindset of contemporary America.
Research limitations with Furstenberg's study are that no comparative research was conducted on other cultures, and that, as he himself notes in regards to his Baltimore study, many other differences between the subjects and their former classmates should have been taken into effect. Also noticeable is the fact that whilst significant and remarkable longitudinal attention was dedicated to the cohort of Black pre-marital teenage mothers, no corresponding attention was accorded their former classmates. Interesting, too, would have been research on the contrast between children born in a non-marital nurturing marriage to those born in a conventional (stable) and unhappy marital structure.
Furstenberg's main point is that concern of pre-marital teen childbearing is misplaced; that much of the findings are erroneous; that concern of problem is a social construction, and that research should be better placed on other aspects.
However, pricing has stabilized and marketing is aimed at mainstream demographics.
CFS' last product, Chubby Stubbies, is at the very early phase of the introduction stage. The company is still working on test marketing, and building product awareness to develop a market for this product. Product quality still has to be established, and it is uncertain if intellectual property protection, such as patents and trademarks, have been secured yet or not. Pricing has yet to be determined, and the organization may wish to garner market penetration with a low pricing strategy, or they may need to utilize high skim pricing to recoup some of their development costs, given their limited financial resources. Distribution will be limited until consumer acceptance is certain, and promotion will be geared towards building brand awareness and educating potential buyers.

Video Assessment
The 18-month-old child depicted in the video is seen first playing with blocks and then identifying pictures of various objects and animals, with prompting from an adult female (presumably the child's mother, though she is not identified in the video). There are not significant hesitations on the part of the child before identifying pictures, with approximately a three-second interval typically occurring between the time the prompt is given and the time the child responds. No anxiety or other stress is exhibited by either the child or the adult at any point in the video, and the relationship the child has with the adult and with his environment -- the blocks and the pictures especially -- appears to be secure. Motor skills from grasping to standing/walking are strong and in keeping with expectations for the child's age. A further analysis of the child's behavior as depicted in the video…

Emily was picked up by the assistant and moved her to the reading area where a book is read to her. Emily stayed there for ten minutes, quietly turning pages.
Emily bit the boy because she learned that she would get individual attention when she acted out in this way.

Psychology of Gender
In psychological circles there is a case made famous by a psychologist by the name of John Money, who dedicated his life to the study of sexuality. This case is so well-known, that undergraduate psychology students are as familiar with it as they are with the Stanford Prison experiment. efore the year 2000, it was simply known as the "twin's case" or the "John/Joan case." Nowadays, the psychological community uses the name of the little boy who was anonymously famous, written about, and studied extensively for almost 20 years: David Reimer. In a deeply heartbreaking and shocking work of nonfiction, John Colapinto retraces the steps that David Reimer took as a baby boy, to a sex-assigned girl, and back to manhood.
Although David Reimer was born a healthy and anatomically correct boy, an accident during babyhood put him in a special category with other numerous cases that…

Dark Satanic Mills
When Grieder writes that "the Kader fire was ordained and organized by the free market itself," he is referring to the fact that the problems that contributed to the fire are, in his view, systemic in nature. He does not accept the proposition that individual actions and oversights led to the fire, that instead the reason these oversights occurred was because of systemic problems.
The Kadar fire occurred in a toy factory that was producing toys, mainly for export to Western nations. This is part of a practice known as outsourcing, wherein a company that wants to produce something designs the product, markets it, but hires a third-party to do the production. The underlying logic of this system lies with comparative advantage, where nations gain by trading in goods in which they have a comparative advantage with other nations. Thailand is a country that has a lot…
