I have found this to be the case, given that visual aids give the speaker something to focus on rather than him or herself. They also draw the audience's attention away from the speaker and instead focus it on the subject the speaker is addressing. Visual aids reinforce the speaker's message, and even if the audience's recollection of what was said is somewhat shaky, they may be able to recall the striking visuals used by the speakers. Charts, graphs, videos, overheads, or models can all be used. The only important thing is that they are relevant, easy-to-understand, and not cumbersome for the speaker while he or she is addressing the audience.
