Often, any problematic conditions also improve for the company that was acquired, although this is not always the case. For companies that acquire other companies for brand name recognition, there can be more of a struggle, and it is often one of confusion. If the acquiring company changes the acquired company's name it has lost the brand recognition that it bought the company for. If it does not change the name of the company, many people might not know that anything took place, and that can be detrimental to people who might not have liked the old company but do like the acquiring company - and will, therefore, give the old company another chance. Quite often the acquiring company ends up saying 'X, a Y-company brand' or something similar, and it just becomes cumbersome and annoying. It is far from the best reason to acquire another company (Ledermark, 2001).
Gaining competitive skills in an ever-changing marketplace and gaining financial from the acquisition of another company are by far the best choices when it comes to why a company should acquire one of its rivals or a company working in a similar field that the acquiring company wishes to move into, thereby gaining market share and improving the position held in the mind of the consumer.
