Hyde (the dog) attacks Carruthers -- the white trainer -- is impactful because it insinuates that animals can learn to rationalize and attempt to hold those that harmed them accountable for their actions. Also impactful is when Julie is approached by the dog's owner and his two granddaughters and realizes the kind of man he is, warning the young girls to never listen to a word the old man has to say.
