In today's competitive business environment, there are a number of facets that must be perfected within any organization in order to succeed within its industry. Any given organization must master practices and procedures in several different professional genres in order to stay competitive within the ever-evolving marketplace. As such, constantly keeping up-to-date with the latest innovations and practices is necessary for any business. This goes for all organizations, including national healthcare organizations. For example, Kaiser Permanente is a major name in the healthcare organization that has had to learn to adapt to local and federal laws in order to stay competitive and successful within its industry and working with unions have helped the organization succeed.

As one of the leading healthcare providers in the state of California and the country at large, Kaiser Permanente has a stellar track record of staying competitive within a very complex industry. The organization is well-known for its performance in providing the best healthcare plans and solutions to consumers, but also for the fact that it is a very sought after organization for employees to work within. The company provides great incentives and benefits to employees during an otherwise volatile economic period, where many companies are cutting benefits and laying off employees. Another crucial element to Kaiser's success as an employer is its strong support system it provides all of its employees. Using the latest innovations in technology and management, Kaiser provides support for employees in all fields, from physicians and nurses to medical billing and transcription.
Still, as such a large organization, Kaiser is still susceptible to the laws and regulations that are mandated by local, state, and federal governments. The healthcare organization itself is a complicated maze of employee relations laws and regulations that is much more intricate in comparison to other industries. Many of these regulations, both in the state of California and in other states, protect the rights of employees from illegal termination. For example, there are whistleblowing regulations which protect employees from reporting concerns or incidents that hinted at potential issues in the quality of care provided by various Kaiser Permanent locations (Ella & Kaitfors, 2009).
