Not much of the older architecture exists in the United States, as we are a country that is more likely to tear down what is old to make way for the new. There are old churches, pyramids, and villages that have not been touched for many years. This says to me that Mexicans value their history enough to make attempts to preserve it and bring it into the modern era. This is a culture that has a clear cultural trajectory that is reflected in the relics and architecture of the cities and towns. Additionally, in the area of Oaxaca, the people are known for throwing themselves whole heartedly into celebrating holidays, national holidays, religious events, and more. The Mexico Tourism Board calls Oaxaca the land of the "never ending festival." (2013) Learning this made me very surprised and happy to know that there is a part of the country that is constantly partying and celebrating. Other countries do not have many holidays, or only have festivals during certain parts of the year, but in Oaxaca, Mexico, it seems every day is a good day to celebrate.

I do not have much...

I enjoy eating Mexican food. I know some of Mexico's notable artists such as Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. I am aware that in the Mexican Constitution, it is mandatory for the citizens to be Catholic. The only festival I am familiar with is the Mexican Day of the Dead, which is a holiday, which involves a large public party and remembrance of those who have died. Once when I was a very young child, I traveled to Mexico with my parents to visit for a few days, to visit the vacation home of a family friend's father. Some friends over the years have taken vacations in parts of Mexico, but I myself have not been back since I was a young child. Certainly after doing some research about the country, I have become interested in visiting Mexico again after all this time.
