Rational for the Research

Competition... This researcher purports that competition contributes to almost every part of individual's personal and professional life. In a figurative sense, this study competes to prove itself to be invaluable. As this study relates relevant information/data from past, along with current considerations related to future Olympics, concerns regarding the impact of Olympic Games are brought into present focus. Consequently, this study "wins" in its stance that in time, this study effort will prove to be a vital, viable contribution to the field of research regarding cities which host the Olympics. This researcher utilizes the following research questions to host this study and acclimatize its focus.

Research Questions

What criteria currently describe the status of East London?

What components contributed to the success of previous games, such as those hosted in Los Angeles during 1984, Barcelona in 1992, Sydney during 2000, and Athens during 2004?

What contemporary components contributed to London being chosen to host the 2012 Olympic Games?

How could the development of social interactions, traditions, community values and interests of local residents potentially impact London?

How might some present potential considerations including increased visitation; destination image enhancement; reduce seasonality; and economic transactions impact London?

Through answers secured from the research questions, along with data/information related in interviews this researcher conducts, the following hypothesis is validated:

Hypothesis

When London invests positive planning pursuits into its position as host for the 2012 Olympic Games, prior to, during and after the immense event, then the impact will consequently return figurative and literal immediate, short-term and long-range profits to London's citizens.

This study also proves feasible, this researcher attests, despite the fact some critical considerations cannot be confirmed until the Olympic Games transpire, a myriad of applicable, pertinent information exists. A number of practical considerations considered regarding the feasibility of this research project include:

The time element, which this researcher estimates, required six months.

Potential ethical constraints that may need consideration may involve confirming credible of individuals participating in interview with this researcher, as well as, ensuring accuracy when transcribing information from interviews.

Aim and Objectives

Aim

This study "aims" to examine the potential impact of the London 2012 Olympic Games, related to the regeneration of East London.

Depict Current Status of East London

LIVERPOOL' S. Capital of Culture year in 2008 can act as the 'starting gun' for the Olympic Games...," Andy Kelly, staff writer for the Daily Post in Liverpool, states ("OLYMPICS 2012: Capital of" 2005, p. 8). The majority polled regarding London hosting the 2012 Olympics reported they approved the capital's win, however, some individuals expressed concern that: "Liverpool could be left with 'the crumbs from the table' as fears grew of public funds being siphoned off to pay for the sporting extravaganza" ("OLYMPICS 2012: Capital of," 2005, p. 8).

As this study investigates East London's current status in a number of areas, it also examines the status of areas potentially touched by the upcoming games.

Objective Two

Explore details regarding prior Olympic Games, particularly, previously successful Games like Los Angeles during 1984, Barcelona in 1992, Sydney in 2000, and Athens during 2004.

This researcher extracts details from existing records which relate details of previous successful, as well as, unsuccessful Olympic Games. The first Olympic was held during1896 in Athens, Greece. Records exist from the conception of the Olympic Games' competition to the one held in 2004 in Athens, Greece, and all those in between. Years the games were not held due to war are also recorded.

Objective Three:

Relate components contributing to London hosting the 2012 Olympic Games.

Why London? Some question.

Managing director Nigel Hugill of property developer company, Chelsfield, purports that although it constitutes an array of ambitious scheme, the Olympics will prove beneficial for London. He states the perks will be fourfold..."
