Its' branch network spreads across in every major market in world, and today after more than 100 years since it was formed the company boosts in its profile as being one of the largest global diversified industrial companies in the world with an estimated sales in the year 2010 reportedly being Euro 25,419 million.

Philips Company started with a workforce of only two employees who were the founding brothers, however according to figures given by the company human resource department, the company currently has over 180,000 employees whom are deployed in the company's manufacturing sites located in twenty eight different countries across the world and in their sales outlets located across 150 different countries.

Scope, aims and objectives of the essay in the 1st chapter

Under the first chapter the essay will aim at giving a detailed introduction of the organization under review which is Royal Philips Electronics. Here the essay will give a brief history of the company, its objective, size and organizational structure; it will also analyze key resources of the company as well as the issue of corporate governance within the company. Secondly, the other objective of the essay in this first chapter is to analyze accounting function within the company and it is here that the essay will introduce the PROPHIX software which is a financial performance management software used in the decision making process within the company, in addition it is also used in accounting functions such as forecasting, budgeting, consolidating, data mining and reporting. The book written by Brian (1997) will be used in this chapter.

Under the second chapter the essay aims at conducting a financial accounting analysis of Royal Philips Electronics in order to establish its financial position and strength.
