For many, the focus is on creating a workable treatment plan based on solid diagnosis. Earning trust through consistency of communication, deciding when and if the level of detail about their diagnosis needs to be shared, and focusing on the patient through customer skills all when combined lead to a cured patient. Client or patient skills are an area that is the most rapid in learning from a critical thinking standpoint. Technology only matters when patients know you care. The use of technical knowledge when presented from an empathetic and positive manner works much better than one that is judgmental or even harsh in delivering diagnoses. The same is true for the detail-oriented skill sets which interlink with communications and technical expertise.
Conclusion

Critical thinking has taught me that communication, even if apparently not related to other dimensions or skill sets of my job as a Respiratory Therapist have a major impact on my job performance. The integrative aspects of these skill sets, when balanced in delivery and use, lead to higher levels of patient health too.
