¶ … advisable to project to the specific audience that the paper is addressing. In this case, the subject of buying a house vs. renting an apartment calls to mind an audience that includes possible candidates who are looking into the housing or apartment industries. It is assumed that these readers have already done some sort of research, though clearly it is a matter of deciding between the pros and cons of house vs. apartment. The case is thus: whether or not to define the terminologies used in the essay. Assuming that the essay's readers are already familiar with the aspects surrounding such an important decision, it is likely that they are also aware of the factors that surround the process of house- or apartment-hunting. Defining terms for said readers would make the essay somewhat redundant and cumbersome to read at length. The essay discussion should be concise and clear; to digress from the argument in order to define possibly confusing terms would deter from the point of the essay. Further questions on what certain terms mean could be easily discussed in another related topic.

2. The use of compare/contrast arguments in the paper

Comparison and contrasting arguments are highly useful in a persuasive essay. The paper's intent is to convince the reader that buying a house is a better option than renting an apartment. In such a case, a compare/contrast method should be put in place in order to show the readers the differences between a house and an apartment. A comparison and contrasting argument would also enable the author to show the reader that there are many more pros than cons when it comes to buying a house. Such a method would strengthen the persuasive essay, allowing the author to gain the reader's attention. The essay in question benefits from the use of a strong set of compare/contrast arguments, and using this style is a great method in convincing the reader that buying a house is a better option than renting an apartment.
