I volunteer at a local animal shelter, and while I am not a radical, I believe strongly in treating all creatures with respect and dignity.
The fact that I am not afraid to stand up for what I think is right is my greatest personal quality, one which I hope will prove to be an asset to the college community I join. It is more important to do the right thing than worry about what someone else might think.
Of course, I worry about some future events, like taking exams, taking care of my relatives' health, and the need to live a meaningful and productive life. But I do not worry, unlike so many of my peers, about 'what will my friends think?' I cannot predict the capricious thoughts of others, I can only know what I think and believe.
This philosophy of setting my own personal benchmarks has given me great freedom, freedom from fear, and a love of the unknown that will stand me in good stead in college. Only by knowing what you believe can you feel strong enough to do your best and seek out new worlds, where you will be exposed to the different belief systems of others.
