Published out of Ohio State University, the journal is dedicated to "reporting major findings in the study of monetary and fiscal policy, credit markets, money and banking, portfolio management, and related subjects" (Cato 1996). The breadth of this journal's coverage ensures its continued relevance, and not only the wide readership but the large number of submissions the journal receives -- which allows its editors to choose carefully from among them -- adds to the reliability of this journal (Cato 1996). The level of academic scholarship evident in the articles that make up a standard issue of the Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking is also evidence of the source's authority and reliability. Historical trends as well as theoretical prognoses appear with equal regularity, as do explanations and examinations of policy and regulation changes. The scope of this journal does more than simply ensure its relevance; it also evidences the wide and solid trust that scholars and readers in the industry alike have in the journal's ability to provide objective yet practically useful information despite the complexities inherent to the topics covered. The fact that industry professionals who interact daily with the changes to economic regulations and realities read and publish in this journal alongside academic economists who chart long-term changes to develop a more grounded overall theory of the economy reflects the journal's reliability.

The purpose of research is not merely to discover but also to verify facts, and to this end the Computer Age has developed an excellent tool -- the electronic database. These searchable databases contain a range of articles, abstracts, statistics, and other information relevant to many fields, and there are several databases geared specifically towards the banking and financial industry. Such databases can only be as reliable as the information they are provided with,...

With estimates of access to the full text or abstracts from over ten thousand different publications, including over one thousand peer-reviewed journals, EBSCO Host's Business Source Premier is the most comprehensive and therefore the most authoritative database currently available (JMUL 2009). The amount of information available can make research somewhat difficult at first, but refining search terms and developing more decisive techniques allows the researcher to access a wealth of information.
The true measure of authority, even -- and perhaps especially -- in the uncertain financial world is the confirmation of results and information. Though repeatability cannot carry the same weight as it does in the hard sciences, every source must have a fair number of its conclusions agreed upon in other sources. An authoritative source does not guarantee true information, and an investigation of several sources is always necessary to ensure reliability. The sources listed here provide a good start, though.
