In the end of the poem she has tied together her themes to show that her words do not divide her from her father. The very fact that she, the daughter and the author has in English expressed her emotion and care towards her father indicates that language has not divided him from her. His fear is thus unjustified, and in spite of his fear that his daughter will learn a language different than his own and grow farther from him, he loves his daughter and the words she creates in English. Just because she is proficient and talented in English she is still a Spanish speaker and still a daughter. Utilizing English with Spanish synonyms until the end in which she describes her poems in Spanish, Rhina Espaillat creates a poem which draws on many levels of meaning to make its point. As a daughter and author, the poem not only speaks about how her heart is unchanged, it also proves it. She is writing for her father and also reflecting on the power of languages as a whole. Language's should not be seen as a dividing force. One's heart remains the same no matter what language. In this case, her mastery of English will not change her love towards her father as he fears. The true language is what is meant by the words and not whether they are written or spoken in Spanish or English.
