Critics of the Brady Bill suggest that this means that the Brady Bill doesn't work and we ought to get rid of it. However, what it really means is that we need to do even more to strengthen gun control measures. For example, the Brady Bill ought to include sales by non-dealers as well as sales by licensed gun dealers and ought to incorporate mandatory sentences for attempted illegal purchases of guns. Organizations such as the NRA will no doubt attempt to frighten Americans into believing that they are losing their constitutional right to keep and bear arms. However, the wide-spread support of the Brady Bill indicates that Americans aren't that stupid. Americans want responsible sales of guns and are willing to tolerate some inconvenience to protect their safety. And, politicians have withstood the pressure of the NRA before and they can do so again. Better gun control can and should be a reality. Bibliography

Brady Act Policy Evaluation of the Brady Act The United States has struggled to curtail its distinct cultural vulnerability to gun violence through a combination of public information campaigns, criminal rehabilitation programs and federal legislation. To date, it remains unclear exactly what the impact of these efforts has been. This is especially true where legislative policy is concerned. The debate over gun control in the United States tends to invoke passionate response

The NRA has furthermore involved itself in controversial issues related to the right to possess firearms. One such issue revolves around an advertisement involving a demonstrator having been beaten by soldiers. The premise of the ad was that all persons should be allowed to carry guns in order to defend themselves and their constitutionally guaranteed rights. Furthermore a dichotomy was proposed between tyranny and armed citizens. According to the

Gun control has been a controversial subject for the public and the government. Obama administration has come under attack for its silence on the issue. Moreover, given the various other causes of accidental death, most notably automobiles, banning guns on that basis would be spurious, unless the state took other measures to reduce accidental deaths, such as the banning of automobiles. Some people suggest that weapon regulation, rather than banning weapons is the solution. After all, nothing in the Second Amendment prohibits the regulation of guns. Moreover, some type of weapons regulation is supported by

Public Administration: Gun Laws The disturbing images of distraught children and staff members at the Sandy Hook Elementary School scampering for safety as a gunman who had calmly made his way into the school compound shot indiscriminately, killing 26 innocent persons, among them 20 children are still vivid, almost three years after the incident. This was not even the first incident of mass gun violence in the country -- approximately 36

Embedded into the express rights and freedoms of the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights is the right to bear arms. The Second Amendment states explicitly the purpose for its existence: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The Second Amendment is not, as may be commonly believed, uniquely
