University of Pennsylvania Is One

¶ … University of Pennsylvania is one of the most widely recognized and esteemed schools in the nation, and it is with great humility, honor, and respect that I apply to the Wharton School of Business. As a student of business, business ethics, and business law, I intend to some day become a worthy representative of your school. I assure you that with my tremendous sense of personal responsibility and ambition that I will succeed in attaining the goals that I now set for myself, including graduating from one of the world's best business schools.

Academic achievement is my number one objective as a student. My goal after graduation is to start a small business development program for the disadvantaged. I especially want to help impoverished communities and their residents empower themselves economically and politically. I believe that economic and political empowerment depends on self-sustaining economic development. This means investing in small businesses that serve the immediate local community rather than relying on large corporations for low-wage jobs. While large corporations do occasionally offer a means by which the poor can obtain the minimum wage required for daily living expenses, such jobs do nothing in so far as helping families achieve upward social mobility. Poor families cannot send their children to college on minimum wage salaries, and it becomes a vicious cycle that is built into the system. While I realize that poverty and empowerment are particularly relevant in developing nations, I know that the United States has a large number of persons who are economically disadvantaged, undereducated, and in need of financial independence. For this reason, I want to study the interface between business, politics and law. I believe that this academic pursuit can help me to meet the people that can contribute to a burgeoning organization, such as an NGO, that will offer the means by which individuals can receive low-interest loans. Only by supporting small businesses can communities uplift themselves and reduce the scourge of poverty. The research I perform while at the Wharton School of Business will be in part how to start and manage such an organization, how to receive and maintain reliable funding, and also how to contend with regulations. On the other hand, I also intend to extensively study business and international law to the extent that it impacts my business model.

While at the Wharton School of Business I will not only be studying hard and working with academic advisors on how to craft an ideal path for the future. I will also be one of many other students. The social aspects of my degree program are important to cultivate, and will require a great degree of time management as I balance work, school, and social life. The University of Pennsylvania campus offers a wealth of extracurricular activities, and so too does the vibrant city of Philadelphia. I look forward to being a resident of the campus and of the city.

Growing up, my primary outlet for stress relief has been tennis and I fully intend on pursuing my athletic passions while at the University of Pennsylvania. Whether for competitive or purely recreational purposes, I will play tennis regularly and in a structured manner. In fact, if my game improves well enough I might even decide to coach tennis in order to make some extra money on the side.
