¶ … Nursing/Framework The conceptual framework is a very serious document about the philosophy of nursing espoused at this particular University and the Helene Fuld School of Nursing in particular. It incorporates HFSON's mission statement and core values, and provides the philosophy for this learning institution. That philosophy is greatly influenced by the crux of the conceptual framework, which itself is influenced by the model provided by Myra Levine (HFSON, p. 3).

However, the philosophy of the school and the conceptual framework are similar in that both of them emphasize a synthesized approach to nursing. The former largely pertains to a synthesis between theoretical work and practical application. As such, it greatly pertains to blending scientific research, technological improvements and adaptations, and an interactive process between the nurse, the environment, as well as sociological factors such as the different units of society.

Those units of society help to provide part of the focus of the conceptual framework, which beings on page three of this document. Specifically, the framework stratifies the levels of nursing aimed at the individual, the family, and the community levels. These different levels comprise the "three nursing client systems" (HFSON, p. 3).

In addition to clarifying these three client systems as the various levels that nursing must operate upon in order to promote wellness, the framework also emphasizes the fact that there is interactivity between all three of these systems, as well as between the various forces that impact people according to them. These forces include those that are related to biological, psychological, sociological, physical, and other such stimuli. Essentially, the crux of the framework is that the client is an individual within a family that is part of a greater community.

There are environmental challenges at all of these different levels which result is discomfort and disease. It is the job of the nurse to be cognizant of these factors and to ameliorate the aforementioned noxious occurrences. The connections between the framework and the role of a nurse are myriad. Essentially, the framework provides a basis for nurses to utilize in their practices.

For instance, by codifying the three different levels of the client nursing system according to sociological units, nurses can be aware of the greater effects of both their nursing and of the environment that influence their patients. As such, they can utilize more holistic methods in their treatment of patients, which can help to produce good not only for them as individuals but also for those that are regularly around such people.

Additionally, this conceptual framework and the philosophy of the nursing school for which it has been adopted helps to spur nurses into utilizing a variegated method to their practices. Since this document is so inclusive of a number of different disciplines, it effectively pushes nurses to combine them with their treatment practices. They should consider a host of factors when working with patients -- environmental ones, ecological ones, sociological, and many.
