Moore, A. 2002. "Jackson, Cooke and Cleveland." In The Cambridge Companion to Blues and Gospel Music. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. This section of this book discusses the transition from gospel music to rhythm and blues. Cooke, being "the first gospel artist to cross over into the pop world" (56), is discussed at length.
