..Americans' distrust of government has achieved a kind of fervor and pervasiveness not seen since...during the debates over the ratifying of our constitution." This passage brings into lucidity that the following discussion Neiman posited in the book. He identifies core principles wherein he provides readers a simple 'overview' of his arguments all throughout the book. Among the arguments presented, Neiman's claim that "[t]he belief that the distinction between coercion and voluntarism is clear and that coercion is a feature of big, powerful, and dangerous government..." Embedded within this statement is a reflection of what American society has developed into: a society that recognizes the efforts of particular programs that specific organizations provide for them, yet inherently criticizes whatever programs the government, which is the society's 'political representative'...

...

Nevertheless, his focus on bringing back the trust of the civil society by calling to their attention the government's functions is perhaps a fresh respite from the usual anti-government discourse that remain to be popular at present. In sum, "Defending the Government" is 'back-to-the-basics' course that every American individual should know about in order to encourage to remain vigilant, yet united, to cooperate with the government and promote its efforts to bringing beneficial services and programs for the civil society.

Republicans construed Obama as suggesting government bailouts for new industries, or at the slightest a more lively federal government function in generating or supporting jobs -- concepts abominations to a lot of conservatives. The Obama campaign countered the idea as political spin that does not replicate the president's feeling or meaning, pointing to full circumstances of the quotation as confirmation (Koch, 2011). A micro considers the interests and rights of the individual company as the primary concern. Both of these views are valid depending on the lens that one wishes to use. The problem arises when the government is forced to develop policies regarding procurement in this volatile debate. The government must decide whether to take a micro view, favoring the rights of companies, or a macro view that places the

There is no cause worth killing and dying for, and killing and dying are not heroic. It would be different maybe if another country invaded the United States (like we did Iraq) and want to change our government. Probably most people would fight that. But Vietnam and Iraq are "mistakes." Almost everybody knows it. Why should we die for a mistake? Why should 3,000 men and women die in Iraq

If the leaders of our national financial institutions had asked 'are these moral actions right, ethically speaking, from the point-of-view of my profession' rather than 'will these moral actions make money,' the world financial crisis would never have occurred. Utilitarianism also tends to deemphasize minority rights -- but merely because a group is in the minority does not mean that it is engaged in a moral wrong. This can be

Research shows that "The roughly 3.5 million fast food workers are by far the largest group of minimum wage earners in the United States. The only Americans who consistently earn a lower hourly wage are migrant farm workers," (Schlosser, 2004, p 6). Food companies exploit low income communities both in terms of selling unhealthy foods to them, and through providing poor working conditions for the community in general. Currently,

Christina Cui Ethics in Business The Nature of Corporation The evolution of democracy is such that it periodically conditions the environment to "create a system that makes the participation of some citizens count more than the participation of others" (Shriffin as cited in Alzola, 3). Today, a wealthy elite and the deep pockets of corporations have unduly influenced the checks and balances on which the American version of representative government was established. Even
