The ethical questions with surveys are various. First and foremost they should be constructed in a way that participants are able to understand the questions and answer them accurately. To that end, terminology should be clear and specific with one using plain English wherever possible. Leading questions, value judgments and context effects (i.e. more subtle effects on responses) should be omitted, as should double-barreled questions, hidden assumptions (such as 'when did you stop beating your wife?'), and questions that may prompt oen to answer in a socially desired manner. Questions should be sensitive so that participants should not feel hurt by phraseology or content. Interviewer factors too should be screened out so that the interviewer is objective to the participants, whilst the participants do not feel threatened by the interviewer.
