EMR and Strategic Planning
Electronic Medical Records & Strategic Planning
The formulation and implementation of strategic plans of healthcare providers is predicated on having exceptional levels of insights into their patients' histories yet also preserving their confidentiality (Miller, Tucker, 2009) while also selectively automating manual medical records processes into being electronically based (Terrell, Terrell, 2009) to better serve them. In formulating strategic plans it's also important to concentrate on which processes have the greatest potential to scale and serve as many patients as possible (Anderson, 2008). This dual focus of being customer-centric yet also process-focused is critical to keep in balance in the formulation and implementation of strategies for healthcare provider organizations. Of the many processes that healthcare providers are challenged with, the greatest is onboarding new patients and ensuring their insurance is correctly managed throughout the entire treatment process (Anderson, 2008). Just taking this one specific process and attempting to streamline it on behalf of the patient while at the same time looking for opportunities to add services that will accentuate and make more productive treatment, health care provider organizations can stay in step with the needs of their patients.
In the formulating and implementing of strategies, the unique treatment plans for patients must also be taken into account. Only by combining electronic medical records and applying them to specific process areas can customization of treatment plans be created (Terrell, Terrell, 2009). The ability to selectively use medical records and continually refine processes to meet patients' expectations is critical for any strategic plan and continually executed tactics, initiatives and programs to be successful.
