Young Girl (Esperanza) Is Sitting

Last reviewed: January 28, 2007 ~4 min read

¶ … young girl (Esperanza) is sitting by the oven door and saw a vision of San Judas in the oven floating towards her. She attempted to reach out and touch him but burnt her finger on the oven door window instead.

This quote concerns Dr. Ortiz who Esperanza is searching for in order to get permission from him for more forensic services regarding Esperanza's quest to find her dead daughter.

This quote was one that showed how a girl who Esperanza was buying dinner ended up with a note (money) that had previously belonged to Esperanza. Paloma, was the girl's name, and she had stolen the money from Esperanza. Esperanza did not realize it until the girl used the money to pay for dinner.

Esperanza is being used by Cacomixtle and he comes on to her in her room. She jumps on him and he hurts his head, which gets him to leave her alone. When she sneaks out of the room early in the morning, he writes an address on her leg knowing that she would go where he sent her, and also knowing that she would have to return to him, since she had nowhere else to go.

5. The person speaking in this quote was Cesar, and it was in regards to the room he was showing Esperanza in the Pink Palace. The Palace was a brothel that Esperanza had been guided to as a place which might be where she could find her daughter. Esperanza was to keep the room and upon leaving the Palace return it to its rightful state.

6. What happened in the Truth About Giovanna was the same thing that had happened to Esperanza. She was staying at the Pink Palace and Mr. Scott Haynes had purchased her exclusivity. She 'confessed' to her priest that Haynes had given her a large roll of bills and that she was just his girl. The priest told her that had happened in the Truth About Giovanna.

7. Esperanza was being asked (or told) by Dona Trini that she was going to have to service more clients than just Mr. Haynes, and Esperanza told Dona that maybe an enemy was using a spell against her. Dona told Esperanza that she could think of eight enemies already.

8. Haynes was smuggling Esperanza across the border, and was sweating profusely. The immigration officer at first waved him through, but then yelled at him to stop. He recognized Haynes as the judge that had let his brother off with parole when accused of smuggling pot across the border.

9. This quote concerns the priest whom Esperanza has been contacting long distance in order to 'confess'. By his words, he has fallen madly in love with her (or at least in lust) and wishes for her to return posthaste, or perhaps never at all.

10. Esperanza met a man at a wrestling match and found his stolen boot, which she returned. He offered her a ride home, they stopped along the way to dance, and she discovered that he made her feel more of a tingle than any man had since she had first met Luis.
