Opening an office that specializes in psychiatry is an arduous and time-consuming project, but it can also be quite a fulfilling endeavor if done correctly. This proposal concerns creating a business plan that will allow for the founding of a psychiatry office and all the considerations that go along with that project. It is therefore proposed that a psychiatry office be established by the author of this paper in an area of approximately 250,000 residents, preferably within the next year.

The purpose of the office will be to offer services to young adults and children in need of psychiatry counseling in the pursuit of assisting these individuals in gaining a semblance of normalcy once again (or for the first time) in their lives. A recent study showed that "young adults with emotional and behavioral difficulties can be less prepared than their peers to take responsibility at the age of 18" (Lindgren, Soderberg, Skar, 2013, p. 103).

It is imperative therefore to ensure that these young adults are offered the services necessary to help them in "growing up" and it is proposed that the psychiatry office offer such counseling services to these youth. Business Profile Creating a business profile is an important component to ensuring that the business not only starts out on a positive note, but that it also grows and maintains its growth in a positive manner as well. From a business standpoint it will be important to set a purpose for the business.

Positive leadership is often the difference between the success of a venture and its failure. According to a recent report "effective leaders are especially capable of fostering group cohesiveness and promoting efficacy in goal attainment" (Ruggieri, Abbate, 2013, p. 1171). If what the Ruggieri et al. study found to be true is true, then it is especially important for goals and objectives to be set for this project before it has even begun. That is true from both the business and the service viewpoint.

The same study found that "team identification is one of the most important factors in defining one's identity" (p. 1171). It would be conducive therefore, that the leader of this project find individuals who will buy into the team concept and collaborate with one another in order to achieve the business goals and objectives. Ensuring that the business runs smoothly will entail finding a Business Manager or Office Manager that will ensure the business runs on a day-to-day basis in the most effective and efficient manner possible.

This person will also be responsible for hiring a team of professionals as needed. It is assumed that the business can be handled by just the office manager at the beginning, but that as the business grows, it will necessarily need additional personnel such as a secretary who will be in charge of scheduling, a billing professional, a marketing professional and additional medical professionals to fill the demand for services. An important component of a successful practice is locating the office in a viable area.

In this case, a professional medical center in a city with at least 250,000 residents would likely work the best. Ensuring that the office is physically and professionally attired will be the responsibility of the office manager, who will also be in charge of obtaining all the necessary licenses and paying all the fees. If the individual hired to be the office manager is not proficient in these areas, then a professional outside group that specializes in creating small business environments will be hired.

Funds for the necessary expenditures (ie; office space, salaries, furniture, marketing etc.) will be provided by the founder. Marketing the new group will be the responsibility of the marketing manager. The marketing manager will be chored with creating a viable marketing plan based on the number of patients that can be handled in an efficient manner by each of the medical professionals who join the group. The office manager will be in charge of all day-to-day office operations and will have the right to hire and fire as necessary.

The secretaries, billing and marketing personnel will all report directly to the office manager who will report directly to the author. Services Provided The proposed office will offer psychiatry services that are primarily focused on young adults and adolescents in need of such services. Accordingly, medical professionals in that field will be approached with the business plan in order to gain their support and to convince them to join forces with the proposed project.

Psychiatrists are likely to be skeptics in regards to a proposal such as this, so a viability study will be an important piece of information to provide them. The project would like to have at least 5 professionals with over 50 years of professional services between them. Each of these professionals will have gained expertise in a number.
