Future Impact of Technology On Personnel Administration This report focuses on human resources management and the future impact of technology on personnel administration. Although the report focuses on a school setting from K-12, technology in the human resources field continues to improve and may one day be completely driven by software applications.

Personnel administration in the past required a thorough understanding of the skills, attitudes and knowledge essential for effective school personnel administration which include recruitment, certification, selection, assignment, load and transfer, orientation, salaries and scheduling, leaves of absence, tenure, in-service education, personnel records, morale, retirement, professional associations and collective bargaining.

If one was to advance into a management role they would also be required to be skilled at the supervisory process, functions of the supervisor, principles of supervision, leadership styles utilized by the supervisor, the supervision and evaluation of teachers and so on. There is technology in the form of software and Internet-based web sites available that can assist any personnel administration needs. Human Resource management software and systems tools will one day drive the academic personnel management process.

The future is here today in many aspects as the Internet and specific human resource software products already are used in business and will eventually be curtailed to schools in K-12 range. Schools are already in a position to take advantage of personnel and payroll system that automate personnel and payroll processes at the initiating level. Department managers, supervisors and administrative staff can all throw away their old pen and paper time cards for automated swipe time cards that administer schedules, payroll, bonuses, union dues, vacation, training, and more.

Add in the email functions that have become standard in the majority of K-12 schools in America and the basics of memos, letters and meetings can now all be taken care of in a paper free manner.

Provide teachers and administrators with wireless Palm Pilot or some equivalent such as a Blackberry and they will instantly have their swipe time cards on a wireless network that can administer all of the before mentioned administrative processes in an atmosphere where just walking near the school building allows for accurate and instant personnel records and other associated information updates. In other words, the future impact of technology on personnel administration will provide a completely decentralized and automated means for initiating administrative updates in a variety of electronic transaction methods.

The objective of each methodology will be to provide a seamless data processing and maintenance process for the appropriate servicing of the personnel office. These systems will reduce or totally eliminate redundant keying of data, time-consuming and other labor intensive tasks such as time card maintenance or payroll oversight. Other advantages include items like 401K administration, online training, or ad hoc reporting capabilities needed for various reporting requirements. In conclusion, this report focused on human resources management and the future impact of technology on personnel administration.
