It seems that the frequency of news reports about powerful and influential leaders in both business and politics suggests a connection between the impulse to be in charge and the potential for egotistical insensitivity or, in many cases, much worse. Today, I am more proud of the fact that I have learned that being in positions of leadership provides the most genuine opportunity to demonstrate humility by resisting the natural urges and responses that often corrupt even those who may not necessarily have sought ought those trappings of leadership...

In my opinion, humility and integrity in leadership is one of the most important lessons and the higher the levels of authority or influence that one reaches, the more important those concepts become and the greater the potential harm that can come from the alternative. I hope that in any future opportunities to be a leader of my peers, I will be able to demonstrate one of the most sincere forms of humility: namely, the humility of a leader who is in position where that choice is strictly optional by virtue of position and rank.
