Plan for Using Documents
Each of these documents would be analyzed to extract relevant data points that correlate geographical characteristics with educational and life outcomes. For instance, CPS performance reports could be mapped against crime statistics and census data to identify patterns or anomalies in educational success relative to neighborhood characteristics.
Additionally, integrating qualitative data from local news and social media will help in understanding the narrative and community perspectives that quantitative data alone might miss. This approach will help us to make it so that we have a comprehensive analysis that combines both macro (city-wide data) and micro (individual experiences and neighborhood-specific information) perspectives.
Discussion with Colleagues
Discussing this plan with colleagues involved sharing the list of identified documents and the rationale behind choosing each. Then there was some collaborative brainstorming to see if there were any additional sources or alternative methods to interpret the data that we could think of together. Some feedback was also given and shared and discussed regarding the feasibility of accessing and using these documents. We also touched on evaluating potential biases or gaps in the selected sources and discussing ways to address these in the analysis, as recommended by Bailey (2018) and Bloomberg (2023).
