. . And the wheat field in the sun, which represents the extreme heat, very thick too." With Monet, La Grenouillere seems a simple artistic exercise, an expression of his creative style in a purely rational manner. The combination between a realistic expression of the external environment and his capacity to innovate comes naturally in this case: there are people on a boat on the water, with trees surrounding them and the sky above them. The people are barely sketched, but this is in no way an expression of mental disorder, because it fits wonderfully in the work and in the surrounding reality, including the other surrounding elements.

At the same time, this is an extraordinary impressionist work and none of the realistic elements bring in any way an obstacle to this. Some of the characteristics of elements in the painting are just hinted, so that the viewer can develop his own realities and perceptions.

There is a significant number of elements that allow one to conclude that the two paintings described reflect two different mental conditions of two artists at different moments of their lives and creation periods. On one hand, Monet is at the beginning, his work is just being recognized and he is hopeful about his future as an artist. He is ready to start a family and complete this part of his life as well.

On the other hand, Van Gogh is in a mental institution at the time he paints his work, one year away from his death. His pessimism and anguish are clearly reflected in a painting that abounds in dark nuances of colors (green, ochre) and where the combination of elements sometimes does not fit with the reality that the viewers know.

Wheat Staple in Upper and Lower Canada In the late 18th and Early 19th Century The importance of wheat to the Canadian economy is not a new phenomenon. On the contrary, as far back as the 18th century and earlier, there was a significant agricultural sector. As the political environments differed in Upper and Lower Canada, though, so too did the development of agriculture, in particular, the cultivation of wheat. To
