Letter From the Principal
Why Andrew is best suited to Receive the Award
For the reasons I highlight in this text, Andrew has my full backing as recipient of the award. This particular candidate has over time demonstrated that he has the ability to not only enhance student learning, but to also spearhead the progress of learners. On this front, in addition to efficiently making use of formal and informal assessments to guide instruction, Andrew is also an avid user of student tracking systems (the Engrade online system to be particular).
The candidate also stands out in classroom instruction. This is more so the case given that he continues to meet student expectations (particularly by grading them on the same level regardless of Gen Ed. Or IEP) and demonstrate academic rigor by ensuring that all essays and work are common core aligned. I also dare say that the candidate's rapport with students is perhaps the best in the school. His utilization of a variety of instructional strategies, including but not limited to, group work, lecture, and PowerPoint is also highly satisfactory, and hence must not go unmentioned.
The relevance of demonstrated exemplary leadership in teaching practice cannot be overstated. Andrew has inborn leadership qualities and I must point out that I knew he would make a great administrator right from the time I met him, particularly after observing his personality and demeanor. A good administrator puts the interests of others right before his own. Andrew has never shied away from getting things done even in those instances when doing so calls for great personal sacrifice. He is always eager to offer assistance even when it eats away into his free time. In addition to being an attendance teacher, Andrew is also an instructional teacher. Some of his responsibilities in this case include, but they are not limited to, ensuring that students attend classes and teachers do attendance correctly. On this front, he deals with attendance issues by, amongst other things, making follow-ups to identify and remedy the problem -- which he mostly does by making the relevant phone calls or setting up conferences. His other responsibilities include doing morning line-ups for grades 3-5 on a daily basis. His morning roles are largely supervisory -- ensuring that things are running smoothly prior to the commencement of school activities at around 8 AM. In the afternoon, he and eight other members of staff work as a team in seeking to ensure that kids board the correct buses home. His role in this case is also supervisory. The responsibilities I cite above are indicative of Andrew's exemplary leadership and administrative capabilities.
