HRM Challenges:
Human Resource department is the core of every organizational function since without HR, an organization cannot carry out its operational and financial functions properly. In the past few years, the role of human resources has increased because of globalization and the elimination of line of alignment between two countries, which has contributed to the ability of employees or people to work in other countries. The liberalization and globalization initiatives have also resulted in improved business strategies that promote organizational growth. However, these measures have also contributed to some challenges for human resource management across organizations.
First, merger and acquisition that has become a common business practice has led to certain challenges in human resource management. Merger and acquisition have been used as significant measures for expanding a business for the achievement of increased profitability. In this process, the human resource management is mainly involved in the process of ensuring the successful integration of the two firms. As a result, the human resource department encounters challenges that are associated with changes after integration, which have serious impacts on employee performance and organizational profitability.
Secondly, human resource management is faced with challenges linked to the changing workforce profile. The current workforce across organizations is characterized by increased diversity in the working environment. The working environment comprises of a mixture of talents of diverse genders, ages, cultural backgrounds, and lifestyles that help the organization to react to business opportunities creatively and more rapidly (Aruna, 2011). However, the human resource management needs to ensure that there is proper and effective management of diversity in the workplace.
Third, organizations have continued to search for new ideas that enhance their competitiveness in the ever-changing business environment. Consequently, organizations have become increasingly interested in new dynamic working strategies that significantly lessen the burden of management and costs. The pursuit for such strategies by organizations has contributed to the challenge of new organizational design for human resource management. The human resource department needs to take suitable initiatives that enable organizations to focus more on quality assurance since customers are increasingly interested in organizations that deliver quality products and services.
In order to effectively address the challenges, human resource management needs to be properly equipped with necessary skills for dealing with the people side of the organization or enterprise. Each of the previously discussed challenges requires different measures for dealing with or addressing them in order to promote profitability of the organizations.
