¶ … art is contingent upon who it is that is conducting the interpretation process. What may be seen one way by a certain individual, may be viewed completely differently by another person. Art is a very subjective topic. One's emotions and feelings go into the process of both creating art and reading other people's art. My definition of art is quite vast. Art is a form of expressing one's feelings. These feelings can stem from sadness, elation, anger, and/or repression. In the beginning of the artistic process, the artist is not too concerned with what others think of their artwork; the art-creating process is in fact viewed as a way to rid oneself of emotions that one may not comprehend at the moment. Art then takes on a life of its own, allowing people to see what they want to see. It is very rare to find two interpretations that are completely similar, even if the piece of artwork being analyzed is the same. Every stroke, every molded corner, or every color used is a reflection of the artist. Art entails being in touch with inner passions and with the actions that led to the creation...

Art is a form of expression.
Previous to participating in this class, I was under the impression that the majority of what encompassed art were just pictures and paintings. This however is not the case. Artistic expression comes in a variety of forms, such as statues, sculptures, and ceramics. Every piece of artwork is a representation of the artist who created it. Without the willingness of the artist to share his or her feelings about a particular topic, art would not exist for what it is. However, my definition of art was reinforced as well with this course and throughout the semester. Being opened up and exposed to such an array of artwork allowed me to understand what truly encompasses the love of art. I learned how to visualize artwork from a variety of perspectives and was able to analyze aspects that I would not have thought about otherwise. My previous definition of art was only reinforced and strengthened due to my exposure to the various art forms throughout the semester.
