In that sense, nursing has become a much more complex profession than it ever was before, especially prior to the modern age of scientific medicine. Today, professional nurses must be educated in many advanced areas of science including the use of empirical data in evidence-based nursing practice. However, no matter how complex the profession becomes, the fundamental essence of nursing will always continue to be the concept of caring.
