¶ … NYC elected officials at the federal, state, and local levels Congresswoman Nydia M. Velasquez is one of the most impressive persons in the state due to the numerous historic actions she is responsible for. "In 1992, she was the first Puerto Rican woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. In February 1998, she was named Ranking Democratic Member of the House Small Business Committee, making her the first Hispanic woman to serve as Ranking Member of a full House committee.

Most recently, in 2006, she was named Chairwoman of the House Small Business Committee, making her the first Latina to chair a full Congressional committee." Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has been sworn in January 2009 and in spite of the relatively short period of time she has been in this position managed to emphasize her interest in honest political actions. As a member of Congress she is recognized for making her details public and for encouraging other politicians to put across similar attitudes. Daniel Squadron is a New York Senator who managed to play an active role in the state in spite of his young age.

Squadron was first elected in 2008 and succeeded to replace a Senator who held the position for more than three decades (Squadron was twenty-eight at the time, thus meaning he was not even born when the previous Senator was appointed). The Senator acknowledged the significance of seemingly unimportant concepts such as parks. From his perspective, such constructions play an important role in improving communities and in making people more likely to put across positive ideas.

Assemblyman Sheldon Silver has assisted the region through concentrating on the masses and on ways in which it could improve living conditions for these people. Affordable housing opportunities was one of his main points of focus, taking into account how he addressed a wide range of issues associated with this concept. Council Member Costa Constantinides was.
