Organizational Behavior Does your organization use any alternative work arrangements? Which alternative work arrangements are most appealing to you? One of the advantages of working at a technologically-based company, and a company that does so much of its business online or over the phone, is that my company is able to offer an abundance of flexible options regarding employee scheduling, as well as a flexible overtime schedule. In the company's promotional literature regarding employment, the conventionally specified hours fit a traditional nine-to-five framework. But few employees actually follow this standard.

I choose to work between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm so I may spend more time in the evening with my family. At any time, if there is a need for me to change my hours, I can easily make arrangements to do so. Not only are flexible hours and time schedules available to all employees, there is also a flexible and abundant over-time schedule. However, working overtime is an option, not a demand for all company employees.

Those employees who do chose to work overtime usually work on the weekends or chose an earlier arrival or later departure. Because I have a family I usually prefer to keep the weekends free for family obligations and come in earlier or late on weekdays if I desire to work overtime.

Question What trends have you observed in organizational behavior and how have these trends been impacting your organization? The predominant trends that have impacted my company are those of globalization, the use of new technology, and greater conscientiousness about fact-checking and security protocols. The organizational trend overall towards globalization in the infrastructure of all companies have resulted in my company's rapidly expanding its overseas connections. My organization is constantly changing how employees handle overseas client's information.

The information comes mainly from doctors from foreign lands, so the company is constantly striving to better accommodate the increasingly diverse array of languages involved in company transactions. The greater ubiquity of technology in the workplace has certainly impacted my organization's behavior as well. A computerized system is being constructed to aid in translating foreign medical documents such as diplomas, transcripts and other confidential information.

The system will also deal with the inevitable problems of fraud, another more worrisome organizational trend in some areas the company deals with -- however, my organization is coping with this.
