Peer Posting About Plagiarism: Reaction In the post regarding plagiarism, my peer provides insight into the dangers of plagiarism within an academic and professional setting. My peer successfully explains what plagiarism is, how it can be avoided, and the repercussions thereof. However, upon closer examination of the post, there are several issues that need to be addressed in order to make the arguments stronger and more comprehensible. In the post, plagiarism is clearly defined and an explanation is given as to why it is important to cite resources.

Additionally, it is argued that failure to cite and reference sources can lead to dissertation failure. The author of this post also provides a solution to ensure plagiarism beyond proper citations. This solution is to compare any work a student writes with previously published materials by running the paper through Turnitin, plagiarizing-detecting software. Furthermore, the author argues that he or she plans to use the Oxford Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities in order to avoid plagiarism in his or her own academic work.

The author admits that he or she understands the importance of citation and believes that previous experience with the Harvard method of citation will help him or her adapt to the new citation style. I believe that the author's definition of plagiarism, the explanation of how Turnitin can help prevent plagiarism, and explanation of how he or she will use OSCOLA referencing is sufficiently explained, however, in the second half of the posting, there are ambiguities that need to be addressed.

While the author successfully explains why plagiarism must be avoided within academic writing and as a student, the author's attempt to explain the detrimental effects of plagiarism in the political world falls short and raises the question: how is plagiarism defined in the political sphere? What are the consequences for specific types of plagiarism? In the post, the author comments that in Germany, there was recently a scandal in which high-ranking politicians were charged with plagiarism and lost their jobs, but the author does not explain the type of plagiarism that occurred, which makes the claim sound not credible.

Paradoxically, the paper fails to provide a citation or reference for this claim despite the fact that the posting comments on the importance of citations to avoid plagiarism. Not only would providing a more detailed explanation of the plagiarism that occurred allow the reader to understand how plagiarism presents itself in the political world, but they would also be able to see how citations are utilized in all aspects of writing.

The author is able to provide a real world example based on personal experience about the impact of plagiarism in his or her work place, yet appears to not understand how plagiarism works. By asserting that plagiarism can be avoided through confidentiality agreements, the author appears to claim that confidentiality.
