In addition, Baxter and Eyles (1997) stress that "academic discourse is sufficiently different from lay accounts" and that "the analytic views of 'outsiders' are important for understanding (pg. 505). Preserving the integrity of the respondents' responses to the interview questions will therefore be paramount in any analysis and presentation of the gathered data, even when such analysis/presentation takes place in a quantified manner. Gay & Airasian (2000) also maintain that there is a high need for data obtained through interview to remain descriptive when possible. Much of the important data in this preliminary study will be quantifiable, but other aspects will need to be treated in this more descriptive manner. The use of case studies and the general descriptive representation of qualitative data and its analysis is a long recognized trend in the human and even the hard sciences (Leedy 2003). Even presenting certain events and phenomena within the framework of a narrative can be an effective and scientifically valid way of using research and qualitative data analysis to make a real and practical point about real world situations (Leedy 2003). Though it is difficult to ascertain the most effective framework in which to present the qualitative and un-quantifiable data collected in this study before the data -- in the form of free responses to semi-structured interview questions -- has been collected, such narratives might provide engaging and effective examples of the general findings of the study. This will also be in keeping with the requirements and restrictions of qualitative data analysis and presentation generally, and interview analysis techniques specifically...

It will provide understandable and useful information about the entire group of resource officers studied and the issue of violence in middle schools in as close a manner as possible to the perspectives demonstrated by the resource officers themselves during the interview process.
In his book Qualitative Research: A Personal Skills Approach (2001), Gary D. Shank suggests that one of the most egregious errors that can be engaged in during qualitative research is "to adopt an intellectualized affectation of objectivity in place of authentic human contact" (pg. 211). Both the problem and the solution this study focuses on are essentially human, and a full understanding of each of the respondent's relationship to their job, as ascertained through the interview, will be a major component of any and all data analysis.
