¶ … realizing that failure could become a realistic possibility, Carl began to think very hard. Soon, his mind drifted to a level of frustration and confusion unmatched in any previous situation. The stress from this situation seemed to suck all the energy out of his body and he fell into a deep sleep..
Carl was visited by a spirit in his deep sleep.
"Please dear spirit, help me with my problems. I promise to make good on them and will offer my loyalty for eternity if you grant me the knowledge and skills to come to a solution !"
The white spirit light did not speak but flashed particles of light through a cosmic wand to initiate Carl into the world of self sufficiency and deliberate concentration.
When Carl awoke in his office at ABC he felt a rejuvenated source of power that gave him the confidence to move forward with his seemingly hopeless situation. Carl was surprised to find in his daily notebook several pages of text that he did not recognize writing previously yet was completed in his unique and distinguishable handwriting. On the top of the first page of the new writing was the title " The Path." With excitement Carl began to read:
" In order to solve your problems look inward, all the answers are there! All problems contain a solution. Perseverance, discipline and the proper attitude are all the tools you need. Abundance of information and helping sources will present themselves when the time is right. It is up to you to step forward with confidence and willpower to eliminate these things that are driving your fear. If you are confused, do not be scared, I will present to you the Path so that you may perform your duty for others to learn in the attempt to reach the highest levels of wisdom, kindness and understanding."
After reading this, Carl became fueled with a new found source of inspiration. The task at hand seemed approachable and solvable, where before the misery of the unknown created the anxious mainframe that could produce no worthwhile solutions.
Prioritization became the next word Carl imagined in his mind.
"Yes, I need to prioritize!"
Aligning individual goals and missions with the overall objectives of the parenting organization becomes imperative for any task to be completed in support of the principles of this organization. Carl decided to list the most important things in order importance for this particular case. What was most important Carl thought, was not necessarily the time restrictions but the quality of training that these new recruits would receive. What is the point of rushing a new recruit into a new job if he is not properly trained? Quality and not quantity became a more substantial principle to try to attain.
The most important qualitative issue in this particular instance deals with an understanding of what the company goals and missions are and relate them to the new recruits. He thought to himself several questions:
"These new recruits will be no good to the company unless they are properly trained, why should I rush?"
"If haste makes waste, then what is my approach?"
"What are the overall objectives and aims of ABC?"
Carl then came to the realization that gaining control of the situation was imperative. Letting all the parties know who are involved in this particular problem became the next step. It seems important to let Monica and Joe know that the troubles he is having may affect their way of doing work as well. Workmates need to understand that the group dynamic is important and needs to be maintained in as much integrity as possible. Helping one another in times of need well demonstrate the strength of the company. Carl thought to himself that if these people would not help them then why would he continue to drive this issue at his own stressful expense. Help and assistance is at the core of human kindness, and even though in the business environment this is often overlooked this organization needs to encourage and support these types of behavior if success is to be expected.
A contingency plan was needed in case the personalities of Joe and Monica were not aligned with those of Carl for this problem. Carl knew that some of these tasks that you need to complete on a short deadline were less important than others. The drug testing issue, seemed to be of the least amount of importance because of its nature. A drug test may be completed randomly or somewhere down the line, and the overall utility of its undertaking is in question anyway. Carl decided to put this one on the back burner.
The incomplete applications of the new recruits represent a miscommunication between Carl and these people. It would seem that any new recruit would be very eager to complete any task in order to prove his or her worthwhileness towards the new organization these people decided to obey. A simple e-mail or phone call to each one of these recruits requiring their assistance in completed applications should be part of the hiring process going in the future. If these recruits cannot simply fill out these applications perhaps they should not be working for ABC in the first place. This is not a high priority task either, and should be placed back on the recruits as they are to be part of the team and need a complete and understand that they have a role in helping the whole system survive and be successful. Carl's seniority in this company should help him with this problem.
The actual content of the orientation manuals and policy booklets seems to be more of an important task for Carl than anything else. Once again the ideal of quality, specifically the quality of this training needs to be understood as the most important task for a new recruit. First impressions are very important in the first few weeks within this organization will set the tone for these recruits for a long time to come. Therefore, Carl needs to address these problems that he's expressing now within the orientation manuals so that this does not happen again, killing two birds with one stone.
