The first step I utilized in finding a conference related to leadership was to properly identify my objectives. Here, I was looking for an organization with strong connections within a broad array of industries and geographies. For one, although my primary study is leadership, the over discipline takes many forms. As a result, I was looking to attend a conference that could properly leverage these different elements to improve my understanding of the overall discipline. Here, a primary step is to research the product offering of conferences to ensure that they comply with my objectives. For one, many conferences are marketed extremely well but may not provide the necessary elements needed to perform successfully within a leadership function. Here, the key take-away is due diligence and its importance to properly evaluating conferences. In addition, it is important to properly leverage the benefits of the conference selected (Bennis, 2003). All too often, participants attend a conference but fail to fully utilize its benefits in a meaningful manner.
