It's important to understand who educational plans are developed to ensure that the student is learning functional skills. Self-care is one of the most important things to focus on with children with Autism spectrum disorder. Knowing that each young female and adult female has different degrees of Autism, and functioning levels. Each young female, and adult female needs to be treated individual, with their own unique educational plan designed just for them.

When working with young females with Autism spectrum disorder one lesson plan to focus on for example is preparing the young female for menstruation by teaching her how to change her own sanitary napkin. Every step of the process needs to be broken down into its simplest elements: putting the sanitary napkin in a purse, bringing the purse to the bathroom, sitting on the toilet, removing the paper from the back of the pad, etc. You could have the young female change her pad up to eight times a day during the school hours. With puberty comes a new sensations in the body, and topic of masturbation is one that fraught with shades of gray. As almost everything in autism, you have to address on a case by case basis.
