Sanatana Dharma Is an Essential

Last reviewed: April 18, 2013 ~3 min read

Sanatana Dharma is an essential concept in Hinduism and Mary Pat Fisher describes it as being the eternal connection between individuals, the world, and spirituality. She emphasizes that many are inclined to relate to Dharma as being equivalent to the idea of religion. However, this sometimes causes problems in understanding the concept because Dharma is actually more complex and entails a series of other elements such as "matters of duty, natural law, social welfare, ethics, and direction of all activities in life toward transcendental realization" (Fisher 69).

Sanatana Dharma has a series of spiritual expression that concentrate on contrasts and that enable the individual to look at society from two distinct and even opposite perspectives. The fact that there are thirty three million gods in India means that individuals have to be able to employ numerous attitudes in dealing with life and that divinity cannot be provided with a strict definition. The Sanatana Dharma is an old concept and its multifaceted nature is largely owed to its complex background. The Rig Veda promotes the idea that "Truth is one; sages call it by various names" (Fisher 69) in an attempt to emphasize life's intricacy.

While people generally have an understanding of the concept of yoga, most know very little information concerning the background of this practice. Yoga is certainly a practice that involves much more than simply taking on a series of behaviors making it possible for one to clear his or her mind and meditate. Sanatana Dharma is actually a strategy that is equivalent to Yoga Spirituality. This concept can involve a series of yoga practices and individuals practicing yoga in general can be considered to act in accordance with principles supported by Sanatana Dharma.

One of the most intriguing ideas regarding the Sanatana Dharma is that it is separated from sectarian connotations and prejudice in general. The complex nature of the Sanatana Dharma makes it difficult for individuals to associate stereotypes with it. The 'eternal natural method' is virtually one of the best solutions to provide an explanation concerning Sanatana Dharma. The concept's connection with yoga makes it possible for people to understand that yoga itself is a very complex practice and that it would be wrong for individuals to believe that it is limited.
